How are they going to sell that fancy jersey if they don't show it?

Trying to isolate Gilbert as early as possible?
Usually they just do because it's a home race.

Wasn't the group with contenders last year pretty big right up till the end?

They probably want to make the race as hard as possible...

According to the Belgian commentators, there is also quite some wind, especially once you come into the open at the top of these little hills.

Looks like Rabo is getting Gesink the hard ride that he asked for. And that Rabo wants the bunch reduced, especially Gilbert's team. They'll keep that up for bit by the look of things.

Peloton cracking up.

At least their making a race in stead of waiting for the favorite to go and then burning up 6 guys for nothing ;)

Yup, Sporza just played an interview with Gesink that pretty much said what you and I suspect, this is Rabo trying to do something about the support that Gilbert can take with him. The way the bunch is splitting, the plan seems to work. So far.

Then they often self-implode before the real final starts.

They should just go real hard from the bottom of one of the climbs at around 40km to go. Bunching up now anyway.

Juicy Vicodin has a puncture?:D

It's good to see them try, i just didn't expect them to succeed so quickly. Can they keep it up long enough to drop the rest for good though?
