I honestly thought he finally had it this once.
Why? Clearly he attacked because he wasn't feeling good on the climb, and hoped to survive the Keutenberg if he had some advantage. EBH just doesn't have the engine yet, that much is clear by now.

And Sagan just keeps surprising, the biggest talent this sport has seen in a long time.

Again, EBH was a pure domestique for this race. He took a lot of wind for Nordhaug and positioned him nicely in the peloton. With 40k to go, EBH even fetched bottles for him.

He only attacked to to thin out BMC's domestiques.

I honestly thought Sagan would win with about 200 meters to go, but a sprint up Cauberg has it's own laws it seems.

So Andy wants to be fit for LBL. That could turn out to be quite a mission. Didn't even see him in the last 30 km of the race.

He shut it down. No point in being competitive when he doesn't have to be.
When he fails in LBL it'll be because he's focusing on the Tour. I've got the script memorized.:D

I was hoping they'd all cramp up, allowing Oscar to coast across the line, hands raised in victory!:D

He did look better today, I wonder what he could have done if he had skipped P-R like Sagan?

And I know that you know that he knew also and I know that you know that many people didn't know. If only others could know what we know, sigh.

Sagan and Samu won't ride FW and LBL guys...

Where did you get this from? The calendars on Sagan's or Liqui's websites don't see past Amstel. Some interview?

I think he'll misjudge the climb and struggle to finish top 10. I actually see his chances better in LBL.
But will he even start in both?

While I think Sagan's peak is already over, he also said after the finish line that "(the Cauberg) was too hard for me".

Not really something you would expect from someone who'll win FW or LBL...

Too hard for him? He came 3rd just beaten by a couple of meters!

:) It was too hard for him and he finished 3rd just because of sprint timing..

Well if he doesn't start FW nor LBL then let's not waste time speculating :)

He should go solo after the Keutenberg. That way Rodriguez will be in a seat.

Now Freire finally left Rabobank my prediction comes true. Good tactics, Rabo can learn from it.

you know who else was pretty bad today?

nibbles. coming from training camp (at altitude?) with no shape probably

Nibbs was chilling today-not worries there-He's more inclined to ride good on L-B-L.....

It was in his own words. If the climb was 50 meters longer he would've probably been dropped like a stone...

"Gasparotto wins Amstel Stunner" says the headline on cyclingnews. Hmmm, I thought it was a rather dull race really until right at the very very end.

Flanders and Roubaix are far superior races - much more intensity and riders attacking and going at each other a lot more. Can you imagine a rider as strong on an Amstel course as Boonen is on cobbles and a sprint lauching an attack 55km out? Amstel appears to be 30-odd hills where nobody big even tries attacking for at least 28 of them. It's a glorified sprint finish really. Well done to Freire for trying to make the race more interesting, he deserved the win, but surely I'm not alone in getting tired of seeing this race just ending up as a bunch sprint up a hill? The irony is the field was broken up more back in the days when it didn't finish atop the Cauberg - I think only one of the 6 editions before the route switch ended with a large group getting to the finishing section together (Zabel). Most riders seem to just be willing to sit there and wait for the Cauberg - exactly the same at Fleche Wallonne with the Mur de Huy. Even those who must know they have zero chance of winning a sprint up it. Thankfully at Liege the racing seems to step up to a better level and riders have a go earlier.

There are some great little roads and climbs around that area, but it just seems to me that the racing isn't living up to its potential and I think the summit finish has something to do with it. Let's see if the Worlds (which ends after the Cauberg, not on it) can produce anything more exciting.

Good effort by Gasparotto, though.

Pisti, everytime someone critiscses a rider you like, you got to respond by attacking riders they like?

Lol thanks for sticking up for me man, the funny thing is I didn't even criticize BMC but Radioshack. I can see why there might have been some confusion though
