@ Parrulo: on the other hand, Ribeiro just said is goal for tomorrow is to work for Rui Sousa. How is Sergio Sousa on the ITT?

Sorry, Parullo....but this couldn't exactly be qualified as a MTF, could it?? You got my hopes up for nothing! :)

(At least Broco got 4th)
Ey, this MTF is always better if they put it later in the race because people have to attack further out. It was way better in 2009, with Eladio Jiménez and Rubén Plaza gaining time. As it was today, it's basically a case of eliminating a handful of people from contention and allowing the big GC men to maybe get a bit of bragging rights.

It was particularly interesting, for example, to note that Barbot had 3 up there in the closing stages, but LA-Antarte had 4. I noticed Mestre in there for Cardoso.

lets see if broco can keep up with cardoso on the tougher mountains a battle btw the 2 would be pretty cool.

man ribeiro is obvious world tour material. . .

Ribeiro is clearly WT material. Maybe he will step up, Radioshack perhaps or Movistar being the most likely destinations if he were to step up I guess. Though of course Bruno Pires was at Barbot last year, maybe that could lead to a Leopard connection. I can certainly see him being of some use as a worker in a hilly Classic race.

Broco and Cardoso duelling in the mountains would be great to see. Which is why it's a shame we have a crappy Mondim de Basto stage this year. No Alvão, no Campanhó, where's the climb that gives us the selection and puts something into the GC men's legs? At this rate we'll be left with a sprint up Senhora da Graça, Ribeiro will finish way up there and it'll be like watching Cândido Barbosa again.

What in god's name has happened to Santí...

dunno but neither ribeiro nor sousa even mentioned him.

maybe portuguese sponsors demand portuguese leaders instead of black listed puerto riders? the increase of portuguese riders getting better roles over puerto guys over the last 2 years hints a bit at that.

Well, Santí isn't really a Puerto guy, but yes, makes sense. Usually he targets his home race in Asturias but this year he sucked at that whereas Sérgio was really good.

If Sérgio can replicate that form, then it's a joke if they have Rui as leader since he's about 45 and only had that great showing in 2008 cos of a breakaway.

You can't say the stage into Torre isn't though. I believe the organization are putting their money on that one, which might explain why there's less chance for selection before Senhora da Graça.

In which case, it's stupid stupid STUPID that Senhora da Graça is on a weekend and Torre is on a weekday, with two stupid flat stages on the final weekend! We used to have an MTF and an ITT on the final weekend. This year, a total waste of the additional potential audience. The GC will be sorted, and I am very much against the Lisboa sprint finish. This isn't the Tour de France, nor should it be.

indeed that was a gigantic mistake from the organization
