Cardoso seems to be riding with his heart mainly. He can't get that kick.

Mestre and Broco alone at the front

Broco is a good guy . He deserves it. Can't say I'm not disappointed with Cardoso, although he really didn't loose that much of a time.

LA have stayed very quiet in the last few days, but they had men right up when they needed them. Probably a case of preserving energy for hopefully defending the camisola amarela. Tomorrow could be a chance for Ribeiro again, however, unless a break gets it - about 4,8km @ 4,2% with a cobbled run-in, your nice short uphill finish, and this time without going over Penhas Douradas to make a selection first.

This year's Volta appears to be all about not bothering to make a selection and making it all about the last 30-45 mins for the TV coverage. Well, except Torre of course, which you can only climb in 45 minutes if you are on rocket fuel.

Re: Guardini. I admire his foolishness on coming to the Volta.

Broco somewhat emotional about his win during the interview.

GC after todays's stage. According to RTP:

1.Hernâni Broco
2.Sérgio Ribeiro + 4 s
3. Ricardo Mestre +16 s
4.André Cardoso + 20s
5.Virgilio Santos +27s
6.Nelson Vitorino +36s
7. A. Bisolti +37s
8.Sérgio Sousa +51s
9.Rui Sousa +52s
10. Ricardo Vilela st

So both LA and Prio-Tavira have reason to be satisfied with their performance. Barbot are a meh.Onda-Boavista are a no-no (only because of João Cabreira's performance.)

Well, none of the Italian one-day classics he's facing at the moment are flat enough for him, and he's going to have to learn to climb at some point. I'm sure the team would love for him to be able to go to the Giro at some point. At least at the Volta the pressure's kind of off for him, and it's a really hard race, best practice for GT riding you can get without having to face the crême de la crême.

H. Broco does have enought talent for an International career, at least enough to be a good gregario for any top team, never understood why he didn't took a chance, maybe no one spot the guy, but I doubt that.
