Tell me again

Ayuso isn't overrated

lol when was the last time a 20 year old won two World Tour time trials?

Great stage win for Ayuso and a great performance from Skjelmose to win the GC here. He will be a dangerous outsider for the Tour.

Remco a bit off from his best but still a decent performance. Van Aert with a disappointing performance getting beaten by Bissegger in a hilly TT. If there is someone overrated in the current peloton, its him not Ayuso.

Gall fell to eighth, falling behind noted TT specialists Bardet and Uijtdebroeks who were 1.5 and 2 minutes behind him respectively. That was worse than Superman in the PdBF TT and possibly the worst TT by a GC guy ever.

Which only makes sense. It shouldn't surprise anyone that a climber profits more from a hilly TT than a rider who is great on a flat TT too. I don't think Evenepoel is necessarily "worse" at this kind of effort, but he has less of an advantage over other gc riders.
I mean Dumoulin really preferred his TTs to be hilly, even vs other climbers. Froome on the other hand seemed to really prefer them flatter IMO.

What a fight to the end! The TT and GC were clearly decided on the second section (which included a climb). Both Ayuso and Skjelmose performed very well there: the former got a stage win but lost the race to the latter. Congrats to both of them. Remco was more aero on flat but lacked some watts uphill.
Remco lacked some watts everywhere. Even his T1 was not up to his standards.

This TT was about as good as these sort of TTs get I'm not sure what you were hoping for.
Probably a different winner.

Personally, I was really hoping for Ayuso as well, but oh well. 2 stages, 3 stages so far this year in only 2 stage races - both WT races. Incredible performance by Ayuso, he really just lost the race the day that Gall won.

Kelderman did a very negative pacing plan like Skjelmose, he was out of the top 30 on the first split, but 12th barely a minute down on the 3rd.

It is still only five years ago that Pierre Latour, who was older then than even Pogacar is now, won the BYR jersey at the Tour by finishing 13th in GC at 22 minutes. It really is incredible how fast times have changed where young riders are concerned.
Yep. And it coincides with another major development over the same years.

Yeah it's true that riders can still prefer a certain kind of TT. That said, at the end of the day I still don't think Dumoulin profited massively from TTs being hilly(in terms of gc times). Yes, all his truly great TTs were hilly, but then the pure climbers still performed significantly worse in completely flat TTs.

Anyway, it's clearly true that compared to other climbers Remco's advantage is clearly the biggest in completely flat TTs.

Great to win one of the big 5 , especially as Skjelmose went into the race severely underrated.

There is still a lingering doubt on his ability to recover during a stage race, as the previous 2 days were basically rest days, but he gets the Tour to prove that problem is a thing of the past.

Also - 3 Danes in the top 10 on the PCS ranking now - we are definitely living in a golden age for Danish cycling.

You know, without Gino's accident this would have been remembered as an absolutely great edition of the TdS. Instead there will only ever be one thing I'll be able to think of when it comes to this race. I still cannot believe what happened.
