Did you know in 2013 clocks will go forward +2 in the winter and +1 in the summer. True. Means it will be lighter at night so people use less power. Also you can ride later.

I have put that in the useless but interesting pile of info that I have.;) Thanks for the info karlboss.

@AK-Zaaf: Exactly, where you ever there? But boy that is a long time ago (the cyanide forums that is)

I mostly read that one, since even the slightest mistake about a rider or race would earn you the names 'idiot, ***, moron etc.'

I had to think about that forum when Dimspace left this one.
He wouldn't have lasted 2 posts there :D

how freaky must that seem looking up at a "wall of cobbles" right in front of you? It looks so steep.

Even if i'm in great shape, i always almost sh*t my pants. It's a terrible view that pushes your confidence and motivation below zero.

No, the problem is that EVERY year writers and commentators in the English speaking world try to tout him as a contender in RVV and P-R...since what, 1999. And EVERY year he doesn't come in first. This year, he will be near the front most of the race...and then he will not win. 2006 was his best chance, and I believe he had P-R in the bag...and then he was undone by Trek...and his decision to ride an ALLOY steerer in PARIS-ROUBAIX!

I would jump for joy if he won either, but I can assure you that my feet will remain firmly planted on the ground because he will not win.

There is no trying when it comes to calling him a contender. He is. He can win this race like any of these other guys can win it. The problem I see with George is he isnt aggressive enough. This year he will have to get into a break with people he can beat in a sprint (which isnt as many as it used to be - he lost something in his age) or take a flyer and solo it. The later isnt likely since like I said - he isnt aggressive enough. I still think he's a contender either way though.

Flecha's take on Flanders.

Apparently he considers leadership more divided on Quick Step than on Saxo Bank. Personally I see it the other way around. Perhaps I shouldn't count Devolder out, but he just hasn't shown anything so far - Breschel has. While I'm sure that Cancellara would prefer to win it himself (because he's said so and I have ears) the odds of Breschel being in the final selection and taking advantage of that tactical situation strikes me as better than the chances of Devolder being there. Based on what we've seen so far (and boosted by the bookmakers) I'd consider Breschel the number 3 favourite after Boonen and Cancellara.

Technically, everyone in the race is a "contender." He just happens to be in the group that have no shot of actually winning.

It's gonna be a helluva tough race, with a harder course and more difficult conditions than previous years, so I think this edition is one for the experienced strongmen, with enough stamina to survive. This probably counts Breschel out for the victory, and favours guys like Flecha and Devolder, along with Boonen and Spartacus, of course. Spartacus is my no. 1 favourite to take this.

Working tomorrow so better get my predictions in now, especially as the prediciton thread is closed.

I am going for Boonen over Cancellara followed by............Gilbert, always gotta pick Gilbert to be up there.

You realize he was in a pack of more 10 riders almost 50k from the finish when it happened? Cancellara was dominating that day. Far from in the bag.

My outside...very outside bet is Gilbert.

Other than that, I have a feeling for Ballan.

Lance - tough to call between him not wanting to make a fool of himself, and pulling out half way through. Repeat of MSR from last year maybe - i.e. a long way down. Could crash though.........

lol at the Cancellara response to Lance's chances.. it's got to be hard for these guys, in some of these situations with versus/etc interviews, to stifle outright laughter when asked a question like that. Guess the big boys are all used to it by now.

Did a little mashup of Stijn's move on the Muur in 2009 with a favorite old choon,

Definitely pumped to see the climbs even grittier in the weather tomorrow. So what are the opinions on where the critical break is going to get away?
