Especially for Ryo :) Uran doesn't look great still imo, Henao will be the man for Sky in moutnains.

PS. Thanks mate ;)

Just superficial damage to his knee, incurred in the crash from Swift. That's what Uran says at least.

more reason to love brian smith for eurosport watchers

Brian Smith ‏ @BriSmithy
Giro d'Italia 1994...I came...I got f***ed....I finished....I love this race! 21 day....22 stages...no rest days... #hardcore

Wow Phinney speaks a really fluent italian. With a bit of a venet accent as well :D

Also, apparently Basso videorecorded the whole prologue while riding it and will watch it a few times before the race (he wants to make sure he won't forget any turn). He also said he did the same thing with other stages he rode in winter. Quite obsessive.

Cunego talked to RAI about his team and his goals for the Giro. Did not give the impression he's gonna ride as a second fiddle.
Also to be noted that two of Lampre's domestiques are Cunego's trusties. Scarponi wanted Stortoni to be at the Giro but he was not selected and apparently Scarponi is not happy at all with the decision.

I disagree.

What else is he and why should`nt they say it? He is still serving his ban and he just got stripped of his Tour and Giro title so there is nothing wrong with saying it.

What is top journalism exactly? The journalists who clapped him into his press conference after his ban was confirmed. Not really.

BTW he thinks Scarponi will win and you can see by the way he was talking he is following the racing very closely.

Top journalism is the middle ground where people can create their own opinion by listening to unbiased information. Starting a story with "drug cheat" isn't that.

anyway this is off topic and i only meant that as a small comment.

Looking forward to seeing how Henao does. He settled in well straightaway at Pais Vasco and F-W and it will be interesting to see how he does now in his first GT.

Would of liked to of seen Betancur here though.

Does anyone else find it strange on the eve of a Giro to be not talking about Garzelli also?

Yeah, you´re right, I already miss Garzelli, he´s always been great in the Giro, sad he isn´t there this year.

But concerning Henao and so on, I for myself don´t like this huge hype of the Colombians and South Americans in general. Henao, Quintana, Coldeportes guys, Uran, everyone seems to speak about nothing else than these guys, and I don´t know why. I have no problem with them, but I don´t like this big hype. There is enough of talent in traditional cycling countries like France, Italy.., who no one speaks about.

Who is riding their first season as a professional from France or Italy and has the potential to top10 in a GT?

I think you have to sit up and take notice of riders like Atapuma and Betancur coming 1st and 2nd on a MTF at Trentino against quality opposition. Henao has settled in well so far and you also have Jarlinson Pantano who put in a respectable performance at Strade Bianche. Don`t forget these riders with Coldeportes and Henao(24),Uran(25), Betancur(22) are of a young age and have plenty more room for improvement.

Like has been said Henao is being talked about as a potential top 10 in the Giro in his first season and that says everthing about his talent. He didnt look out of place at either Pais Vasco and F-W and those were his first WT races remember don`t forget.

Yes, in fact you´re right, no doubt about their huge talent.
Maybe I´m little too conservative about this issue.

Definitely. aquarone killed any chance of liking him with that loser move which is a shame cos i like a lot of what he has been saying after that.

Slightly surprising that Sky look less 'corporate' than other teams. Some riders are wearing hats some not, they different coloured socks and shooes. Other teams have put in effort to get perfect a match along the line.

I knew taylor phinney was big, but I didn't know he was this huge. When he is on the bike he looks much smaller.

If you have to believe the french speakers on FR3, Sport +, Eurosport France : a lot of french riders will smash the field the coming years ...

Machado was in form early because of Algarve and being told to prepare for the Giro, then of course Lance and Johan had an argument over remuneration (thanks Popo for admitting that) and so Radioshack didn't go there.

Anyway, at the 2010 Giro, Richie Porte was in his first Pro year, and Robert Kiserlovski had only been pro since June the previous year (moving from Amica Chips to Fuji-Servetto).

I appreciate that the 2010 race is a bit of an anomaly with that 13 minute break, however.
