Ah, Spa-Francorchamps. There's a REAL motor racing venue. The WTCC that was overrunning is at Zolder, which isn't much good and killed Gilles Villeneuve.

Good for 'cross, though.

Spa nearly killed Stirling Moss!

What do you mean (I'm not watching coverage yet)?

Hopefully the australians can get a good result today. For those who don't know, during the finale of the race, it will be monday in Australia which is ANZAC day. This is Australia's main war memorial day which is a day of commemoration and celebration. Some of the battles which took place in the world wars are not far from where the race is today so it would be nice if an australian was up the front in Liege.
The siege of Bastogne is what the city is most famous for.

So with all due respect to the Ozzies, it would be nice if someone could avenge General Sosabowski.

Actually, all we need for that is for T. Martin to not make the top 10. Isnt that right bavarian rider;)

Watch a stage of the Tour there back in the late 80's

and Jackie Stewart too. It's a dangerous place, or at least the old circuit was.

But there can be no denying it's a much, much better circuit than Zolder.

I've got to say it - the average speed of the peloton these days is getting ridiculous. They've already covered almost 180km in just under 4 hours. At this rate, the race could be sub 6 hours, and we'd miss out on the bulk of the coverage.

It is a great circuit for sure, to this day it tends to be one of the most exciting races on the spectacularly dull F1 circuit.

I watched a documentary called 'Grand Prix: The Killer Years' a few weeks ago, it's about the dangers of F1 in the 50s/60s/70s and all the drivers who were killed before safety became a serious concern. You should give it a watch if you can, it's very well made although quite disturbing in places.

Listening to Gilbert speak I am more convinced now that he will win.

He is mega up for it and twice as strong as anyone else in this.

I think the only way he doesnt win this is if the peloton does a huge screw Gilbert thing like they did to Canc.

I once saw a discussion on "worst decisions in Grand Prix history". People were talking about various penalties recently, Piquet agreeing to crash deliberately and so on.

I said "not stopping the race at Zandvoort '73".

I would expect that they must have talked about that one in the show. The footage from that is possibly the most harrowing you could ever see in motor racing.

Sorry. Its Mathias Frank not Van Avermaet. Dutch commentary team lied.

Frank is in the very first group with De Gendt, Van Avermaet is in the first chasing group with Ten Dam and others.

At least that's what I understood.

The footage of Purley trying to save Williamson from his burning car is the very last scene of the documentary. I'd never seen it before, it's incredibly tragic and very hard to watch.
