Why? The Tour still massively favors sprinters winning the points jersey. Remember, its a points jersey and not a sprinters jersey. Cav will just need his HTC slaves to keep it in check until the intermediate sprint on a flat stage and win that sprint too? How hard is that?

I'm just whining, I know how the points jersey is supposed to work. I want to see Cav challenge for his mentor's record for consecutive green jerseys. It'll be interesting to see if 2011 HTC is up to the task.

I think the squad this affects most is actually Garmin. I know they were planning to have Tyler Farrar as their number one sprinter at the Tour de France, but I think this rule change might give them pause to consider going for the green jersey with Rainbow Thor instead.

Christian 'I don't want Cav to win the Green Jersey he so assuredly deserves' Prudhomme.

Seriously though it looks like an all-right route. I like the return of the TTT, and I like keeping it short enough that riders on weaker teams will stay in contention. I think there could stand to be another ITT in the race maybe, but it's not essential. Some good tough mountains stages and 4 MTFs.

I think it's the opposite. Seems like they increased the points for stage wins from 35 to 45 points and the intermediate sprint with 20 points should be easier to control than several sprints of 6 points.

I guess they also don't like that most sprints aren't contested. Usually there is a break that just rides right through without sprinting and this might be a way of giving teams an incentive to actually go for a few intermediate sprints. I wonder if they will give points to more than three riders as well.

I have better people to feel sorry for than the guy who finished 29th and 26th in the last two editions.

Sick one year and rode half a tour with a broken arm the next year... To have yellow and lose it because you cant stand up when you are climbing because your broken arm hurts to much, yea i wouldn't feel sorry for him at all. He will be back...

It's not such a bad route

Guys, why so many negative comments?

Cycling fans enjoy all aspects of the Tour de France. I love watching Cav as much as Schleck and Evans. The organisers need to satisfy everyone's tastes, and I think they've done a pretty good job there.

There's so much that goes into formulating a route, and most of us don't understand all of the issues involved. If you're planning to go to the Alps to watch, then you can see a lot of cycling without moving too far - congrats to Prudy for that!

Meh, don't get why people are so annoyed here. Pretty good parcours. The only thing that's ****ing me off is only one time trial. Why don't you just give it to Andy already =/ She's the only reason I can think of why there are so little time trials past few editions.

You are incorrect. There are two.

See you on the Lautaret!

I'm worried about stage 18 though. If the weather's snowy they won't be going to either of those 2600m climbs.

I'll be parking the motorhome at the Top of the Lautaret, from there I can ride to all the best vantage points!

They have made the route just like last year... Another Andy vs Alberto (assuming hes not suspended) war in the mountains. We saw that this year...
People viewing on the mountains may be able to see more but the vast majority of people watch on TV.

This route also stops true champions like Cadel from having a decent chance...

A true champion wouldn't let something as trivial as an inconvient course withhold him from owning the opposition, wouldn't he?

Differences are never too big on team time trials. They even correct times... And Schleck will have a good team anyway, so he will minimize his losses. There's only one real time trial. In the past(read: before AS started winning the white jersey) there were 2 long time trials and a team time trial and/or prologue.

AS will win this, there's not a single doubt about that(unless he crashes before or during the Tour or gets caught on something)

Im saying he doesnt have as good a chance as the true climbers like schleck, contador, Rodriguez, sanchez etc. Hopefully he will pull off the suprise :)

Andy Schleck is the new Robert Millar confirmed?

So basically your complaint is: "how dare Preudhomme tailor make the Tour for Schleck, when he should be tailor making it for Cadel"?

Surprised by the TT-lovers. I think they are a necessary evil at best. This years Giro had less than 10 flat time trial kilometers, no one cared about that right?

I made that point too... But they didn't care.

No Schleck is a legend if anyone other than Cadel was to win in my opinion it best be Andy. Im just saying its like last year, all about the climbers in almost every aspect...

Think a little bit ahead will ya ;)

Contador will be banned. AS will easily dominate the entire Tour next year. His weakness? Time trials. How to make it more exciting to watch? Add more time trials.

When this route was actualy made they most likely had no clue that Contador would be banned. If Contador was there more TTs would most likely have made the race less close and less exciting.
