UCI is aware of steps being taken to set up a private league, World Cycling Tour, outside UCI, by certain team managers. I wonder will the financial benefits they are chasing benefit you, the riders. Somehow I think not! I quote Johan Bruyneel “I've been laying the framework for something great… But you'll just have to wait and see…”.

Several years ago a TV station invented "X-sports" and it has developed into a very popular event (both TV and live).

I can envision a cycling event being held on grand prix motor racing circuits around the world with competition consisting of an omnium (perhaps with betting similar to Japan's keirin races). Hey - maybe some motor paced events.

For those readers outside of Europe, perhaps you do not realize how cycling is run here. The UCI is NOT the only Governing body for cycling. Here in the UK more races are run NOT under UCI rules than under UCI. Its the same in Belgium/France and most European countries have races not run under UCI.
In the 80's The UCI decided that anyone over 40 could not ride UCI races and so every country set up races for 40 plus riders, most of these organizations ares till doing the same today and the ICF International Cycling Federation was set up to look after the interests of all the countries and its riders.
When the UCI and its local federations saw what was happening they tried to ban races riders and organisers.
Here in the UK road races are controlled by the police not UCI/BC and so only police permission is required and therefore anyone can organize a cycle race. All they can do is ban there own members from riding these races.
So if the Pro Teams and organisers want to set up there own races it will not be a problem. The UCI needs the riders and the teams and McQuiad needs them to boost his ego in the corrupt world of the Olympic Politics.
So go for it guys !!!!!!!!!!!!!

We already have a few - the Copa América de Ciclismo, for example, is on the Interlagos circuit, and many autodromes have appeared in major races - Potrero de los Funes in the Tour de San Luís, Monza in the Giro Donne, Montmélo in the Volta a Catalunya, Assen TT Circuit and Valencia Street Circuit in the Vuelta, Monte Carlo Street Circuit in the Tour, and so on. It makes sense as the circuits are enclosed, fans can see all the riders, and the security aspect is easier as there is no need for road closures. Somewhere like the EuroSpeedway Lausitz could offer a few options too - an oval race and a long circuit race for example.

The problem is that very few circuits would be challenging enough, terrain-wise, to break up the race and give us something that isn't a sprint; maybe the likes of Spa-Francorchamps, Portimão, Road America, the Nürburgring (at cycling speeds you could use the whole thing, not just the small amount we see today) and Mount Panorama could offer something of a challenge but I don't see much else.
