Seriously, didn't he sign on as the official Astana photog a couple years ago?

I mean, yes, I knew he had a man-crush on Armstrong, and I knew that he was providing his professional services to the Armstrong team, but I didn't know that they were also fattening him up with free goodies!

Sorry, was in the process of tidying that up. My point was really that the whole RS strategy seemed to be very passive, rather than proactive.
For that stage? Yes. Not in the prologue, and, presumably, not in the mountains and remaining TTs.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA plz stooooooop!!!! you are going to kill me.... I'm near to die laughing!!! gooooood ahahahahahaha

Call me an old romantic but Phil and Paul aren't that bad... at least they both know how to ride a bike and the Lance love fest seems a little better than last year to me. I have heard Phil mention at least a couple of times that not everybody likes Lance... I've never heard hime say that before.

And back on topic...

Paul went on this morning about how some riders have their own personal physiotherapist to work out what type of electrolyte replenishment he needed before and after racing  I assume he meant physiologist!

All good fun

i liked phil better before armstrong came around and the US broadcasters picked him up for live coverage. that is where his money comes from, and he is more than happy to talk about lance all day.

FWIW i have met phil and he is a genuinely nice person and very passionate and knowledgeable concerning cycling, but he has allowed himself to get carried away on the armstrong boat of sycophancy, what this means for him if larry does get exposed i dunno.

as for sherwin, he is a fanny.

On him repeating himself could this be caused by the fact that he is commentating for several different networks that go to commercials at different times and so some people will hear it twice but others will only hear it once.

I can understand them doing it once or twice, but last night they must had said that renshaw said cav was 10km fasetr than him on no less than 10 occasions over the course of 2 hours. it was at least once every 10 minutes

Huh. I missed that. All 10 times, apparently.

Phil and Paul are human and so not perfect, but I've never see anyone better. I can't stand that Craig Hummer guy who obviously spends more time looking in a mirror than learning anything about cycling.

paul and phil are definately being paid and told by US companies and vs to mention lance pharmstrong as much as possible, the american audience doubles with pharmstrong in the tour. and i cannot remember in the past ten years it ever being this horrendous, i mean it was bad but now its like....how does pharmstrong even ride his bike with paul and phill so far up his ***.

I just look at the pictures. I don't pay that much attention to the narritve.

Nor do I keep a score card to see how many times a certain rider is talked about.

Yeah Postal/Radioshed can't afford to give him a bike or anything like that;) so he gets paid in snacks instead:D

Wow, the more i read about them, the more i start to appreciate S. Kurdyukov.

If that's even possible cause i already think he's providing the best commentary there is and was and could be for any sport ever.

He never, ever stops and never ever repeats himself, ALWAYS has something to say about that particular spot riders are crossing at the moment whether it's in France, Italy, Switzerland or whatever in Europe occasionally reminiscing his own personal experiences of visiting that place and giving advices if one would want to go there himself, mentioning something about architecture, culture and cuisine of that particular region.

Of course he also comments on actual race -- it obviously is taking the bulk of his time, as it should.

Mix it all up with regular phone calls to a few russian-speaking DS (live, right during the race) or to some other person.

Yesterday he managed to talk to Abdoujaparov, then it was Konyshev (Katyusha DS at the race), then Sedun (Astana DS at the race). He also promised to get Ekimov on the air for tomorrow -- looking forward to it.

Oh, and he reacts to audience -- answering question he got from eurosport forum or by twitter.

Epic Sherwen Fail on SBS tonight when Mike Tomalaris was interviewing him about the FLandis Federal Investigation. (ok, im paraphrasing but this is the gist of what he said.)

Tomolaris: Lance has said today that he is willing to cooperate with the investigation.
Sherwen: Larnce has always cooperated and all the allegations that have been thrown at him have fallen by the wayside, so i fully expected him to cooperate and he has. And these latest allegations are nothing more than regurgitations of everything that has been leveled at him over the past 10 years.

Sherwen basically said that the allegations are nothing new and that like before Lance will come out of it clean as a whistle. This was all news to me, i thought we only learnt the other day that Postal sold off bikes to fund their stash and that Lance has a secret fridge in a closet and that Armstrongs wife was present when giving peds and that broken down buses in the alps were phony covers........but apparently not to Sherwen.....it is all old news. Sorry for the rant but those old geezers get my blood boiling at times...

(Just remember to use your Tomo and Sherwen voices when you play it over in your head for extreme realism)

I couldn't believe it either. I swore at the TV ...it even prompted me to put a comment on the SBS TdF webpage under the article.....but that just fanned the flames of my anger as I was exposed to gratuitous fanboy/girl Lance love posts...... why is there no vomit emoticon:mad:

The worst thing about P&P is that they only talk about a few riders. It's not only LA ball licking, Matti Breschel did heaps of work today and they only commented on Voight and O'Grady. Even when Breschel was taking up the whole screen they were talking about O'Grady.

I much prefer Keenan, who recognizes all the riders and comments on anyone who is working or animating the race. He also doesn't come out with brainless drivel like "I hope that bike was from the team car" or "will Geriant Thomas be in yellow?" when Thomas is riding with the guy in 2nd place on GC. But even if they feel the need to persist with this circus act, couldn't they at least mention the names of more than 20 riders?

+1

As also mentioned, P&P just seem to be 'phoning it in". We know they have TV producers in their ears telling them "say something about Lance", and yes they broadcast to several different channels (some of whom may be on a break at any given moment, so yeah they will repeat some stuff)...

BUT, that doesn't get them off for repeating the same sh*t day in day out, nor commentating on things that aren't actually important whilst missing out on delivering insight.

Anyways, we know there are options for muting, other sources, etc. but for those still listening to the 'Dynamic' Duo, let's laugh/vent on a few more of the ridiculous things they say.....see that next!

Classic sayings and howlers

(feel free to add more, including any moronic Tomo insights as well :D )

PHIL
"And so, the first pedal has been turned in ANGER"
"The gap is coming down all of the time!"
"I don't think there is a sprinter in the world who can beat Cavendish at this moment in time" (erm, what do you think happened on Stage 4 Phil?!)

PAUL
"there is Fabian...Fabio Cancellara...." (Stage 11 TdF 2010)

"people often ask me, why do riders go in a breakaway? And I say to them, because if you're not in it, you haven't got any chance to win, (bla bla bla nothing really explaining what factors help a break succeed, or that they get tv time for their sponsor, combativity award, steal intermediate comps to neutralise points to support their team mates.....)"

"the green jersey is a very difficult competition to win"

"Do not adjust your picture. The problem is not with your picture. The interference from the trees is disturbing the signal from the motorcycles to the helicopters."

I love that one. Someone needs to let Paul know this isn't 1972 anymore.

"Adjusting" your picture went out with you mom and dad's 25" Zenith TV/Stereo console.

Oh I can't resist.

Tonight on SBS Paul Sherwen just said (paraphrase)

" I don't know why Contador pushed for those 10 seconds yesterday he would have been better waiting until the Pyrenees where those 10 seconds would be worth 5 minutes".........Huh??

I think i flicked onto SBS just after he said that as he was saying something about Armstrong wanting to win today because he got beaten in 1995?? Or something to that effect

Another Sherwen howler tonight whilst chatting with Mike Tomolaris. He contridicted himself in the space of 10 seconds.

Sherwen:I think Alberto Contador needs the Yellow jersey coming out of the Pyrenees.

10seconds later......

Sherwen:I believe Andy Schleck needs a minute and a half possibly 2 minutes on Contador before the time trial to win the tour.

And also another Mike Tomolaris howler:

Tomolaris:We've seen Alberto Contador this tour and he doesn't look as good as last year. Last year he had the tactical genius of Johan Brunyeel this year he doesn't.

I didn't really get the Sherwen contradiction, but Tomolaris either doesn't know his stuff or he just keeps on keeping on the myth. (bit of both i'd say). But seriously does he not know who is in AC's entourage
