I told you guys that the break would make it, biggest win of Townsend's career.

De Lie seems to be back to his best.

Morgado 7th, mixing it up with the sprinters.

Magnier did have a teammate, but who never pulled, I think. De Lie alone in the group.

Race which usually ends in sprint and is on at the same time as lots of races leads to people not watching until last few kilometres, plus ça change.

Good startlist, but a lot of apathy about the type of race. And we could actually get some tension in the finale, which means that breaks may never be given this much time again.
There are no real big races today though. And it is a quite decent race for a sprinters race, just enough obstacles towards the end to keep people guessing of whats gonna happen, even though its usually a durable sprinter winning.

Not exactly a shock with this lineup, what were they thinking?

I mean so was Magnier or Van Aert btw...

It's not like Lotto can really do a lot better. Berckmoes should've probably been here yeah but apart from that they were unlucky with Aerts crashing. He looked good. And Van Moer just obviously not caring anymore given he's leaving. He should always be there.

Livyns would also have been more useful today. Or Segaert/Menten, if you want to go the Pedersen 2023 route.

Absolutely agree you can apply similar logic to Soudal and Visma, but a win here is not as big for them as it would have been for Lotto. Of course it looks worse in retrospect because De Lie wins the sprint, but when you've won *** all all season as a team, it makes sense that there's more scrutiny than usual when you lose a WT a race because you didn't give your leader the support he needed.

And Magnier also wasn't actually isolated, because Huby finished with the front group too. So if you want to criticise Soudal, not having him pull is a way more glaring issue.

Huby was there for Magnier.

I agree with Livyns, he could've also been here (but it has to do with him going to the Vuelta I think). Segaert and Menten were in Denmark, bit hard. Also I am not sure they would've even been in that group, but that's hard to say.

I think their support was actually really good APART from obviously having that extra guy. De Lie was in perfect position for 4 Wasebergs straight, thanks to his team. So I think you're being a bit too harsh. It's no surprise that they simply don't have a lot of riders that can survive this. Berckmoes or Livyns shouldve been here, I agree about that tho.

Well I thought Magnier was alone because no one was doing anything (and because he wasn't in the result at first), that's even more ridiculous imo. Same with Rutsch barely doing anything for Girmay btw (even tho he didn't have the sprint anymore).

EDIT: well if you think of it, they should've just worked earlier and kept the break on a tighter lease. I said if with like 50k to go, peloton was letting them gain time ago. Lotto should've ridden there, but so should've other teams.
