Vino Hoogerland Rujano.

Also Cancellara. i know this forum hates Canc but it should still be aknowledged that going 50k out in RVV is something. Its one thing to do it time and time again in lesser races, when if you fail you can just try again. Rvv comes once a year and Canc takes that risk. Thats aggression, and its very impressive.

It's actually pretty dumb since he did the exact same in 2007 :D

With the same result.

By the way, I would NOT consider a rider aggressive for getting into the classic break only to lose any chance due to it being the classic game of cat and mouse. Aggressive should be the rider who makes the REALISTIC attack/breakaway to win, gain time, force others to also go, force the real racing to take place.

The way they give who ever gets into the doomed early break is way overrated and wrong. Should be more of an Insane rider category or given Jackie Durand ticker miles for rider with most amount of time riding alone in front of the peleton, but its not the real meaning of Aggressive.

Jan Barta from NetApp.

That poor guy has a decent engine but since the team needs TV time, all they do is they make him get in a breakaways in every race. At least in Tour of California they gave him the stupid "most courageous" award.

He was in two breakaways in Tour of Swiss too.

Dont think they were invited to any other important race.

I think Alberto Contador should get a nod as the most aggressive rider. It's true he doesn't contest sprints, but shows a type of "If I didn't beat you on the climb, I don't want the stage" attitude. Nonetheless, when you look at how far out he attacks from, and how often it's pretty impressive.

de Gendt

Agree with dlwssonic, if this was a poll about the most aggressive team it'dhave to go to Vacansoleil IMO

Present - Txurruka.

I know it's hard to spell, but there are more complicated names up there so no excuse for leaving leaving him off :p

Voeckler, Machado, Ricco, Roy and Hoogerland get honorable mentions.

Recent Past - Durand

Honorable mentions - Voigt, Virenque, Mayo

A few guys deserve some credit here.

Voeckler is obviously the most successful attacker this year, he's been doing very well and that's probably why he ranks so highly. He's perfected his game this year and clearly has killer shape. I don't think he's the most aggressive though.

Gilbert is the strongest attacker in the peloton. You've got his last k attacks, his Poggio, Bosberg, Roche aux Faucons-attacks and of course his massive success rate. Gilbert is too strong to be a real attacker though, that's why we only see him in the final of a race. His success has made him less aggressive and more calculated, but he's still among the most aggressive riders around. His performances the last weeks were soaked in aggression.

De Gendt is currently the best guy for the long attacks. He attacks a lot, has a nose for the right breakaways and measures his efforts perfectly. He potentially has a very big career ahead of him with a lot of fans. Wouldn't call him the most aggressive though.

Vino can be considered the most aggressive rider of the bunch, but this year isn't his strongest year. He's still one of the best riders around, but his age surely does affect his aggression score. Probably still the most aggressive guy in his head, but not in reality.

Hoogerland is very aggressive and mostly crazy, that's why I award him with a second place. Not sure what happened to him after 2009 though, he looked a lot stronger then.

Txurruka definitely belongs on here as well!

Bakelants, for me, has been the most aggressive rider in the peloton the last few months. He's been in countless breaks, has attacked on so many occasions and has done all this without taking one win. Seemingly not bothered by this he kept attacking in the TdS even though his shape wasn't perfect anymore.

The rest, nah.

Voeckler or Vino for me. Voeckler just makes it to first place, because I think that he's more effective these days. A while back it would have been Vino all the way.

And agree with all those above. If we're having a crazy attacker category then you have to include Txurreka and he'd draw with Crazy Johnny.

I also think Moncoutié belongs on this list. He's not aggressive, he just heads off without really thinking too much about it.

Mikhail Ignatiev is a monster attacker who just goes whenever it seems even vaguely insensible.

Also Vasil Kiryienka - before his 2008 Vuelta heroics bought him a job as Alejandro Valverde's personal minder, he was a breakaway machine with Tinkoff. We're seeing the aggressive Vasil back now with Movistar giving him a bit more licence.

Voeckler is the right answer on this one IMO.;) Looks like he gained more resistance this year and does'nt fade as quickly as he used to, which is reflected in the number of wins he's accumualted so far compared to previous years.
Voeckler has always attacked just as frequently, it's just that this year he's smarter about it.

How is Thomas De Gendt not a candidate? When you get in the break in almost every stage of a stage race (ToB 2009) and also in most other races he's in then he at least deserves a nomination.
This time next year de Gendt will be on everybody's list of aggressive riders. He's been an absolute monster in that respect.

They were at Paris-Roubaix, and some .HC races. I think Timon Seubert was in the break at Roubaix and Omloop too, plus stage 1 of California.

+1 for Kiryienka and Ignatiev (although he seems to be getting worse every year). Moncoutié is less "all over the place" IMO.
