So a photographer captured the moment when Contador launched:

The entire front of the peloton (including Katusha (especially Katusha)) looks absolutely stunned.

They look like Leo-Trek did on the Alpe D'Huez stage in the 2011 TdF. "Are we supposed to do something about that ?"

Bjarne Riis HAS FINALLY REVEALED :D his deadliest servant. The one who will lead the Danish armies in war. The one they say no living man can drop. Alberto Contador of Pinto. You’ve met him before. He stabbed Andy's chain at Port de Balés. He is the lord of Saxobank, the greatest of the Nine!

Noooo... he didn't stabbed andy's chain.

"Andy quivers under the breath of the great one. So intense that his trembling hand can't shift the gear properly.

great quote though :D

Classic picture for sure. One for the record books. This was the moment when Contador launched himself in a daring attack against the overall leader. In front of Puritos very eyes while his whole team looked at it. Many are we who wondered what ever happened with the Katusha team during this short period. Nothing we know about since we couldnt see it.

Mythical stage.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. It looked like there's an army of Kathusha team there when it all happened. And when the telecast started, I only saw, Purito only got one man and Alberto was already way ahead. I'm still finding out what actually is going on? How come you let your no.1 rival break away?? Did purito underestimate the attack? Or was he having a bad day? Or was he over confident since he fended off all of alberto's attack in the past 16 days? And where were all the kathusha's man? Were they all spent in the climb? I thought this wasn't a big mountain..

There is a video circulating moments after AC has made his attack. He is about to join the break with Hernandez and Pires. Seconds after he passes is the little group with Purito, Losada and Valverde with Losada doing the work. A little while thereafter comes the Skyboys with what is left of Katusha on the back. The Purito-group most have set up a so furious tempo that the rest of his team simply implode with what was left of the peloton. Purito says in the interviews that he did not wanted to follow but rather stayed with his team but to me it looks like they finally realised what the long-term danger was with Saxos up ahead and panicked.

But he should probably been in trouble, and probably lost a little more time, even if they not had break away with Valverde and Losada since it didnt go any faster in the Skygroup. SBTB noticed in the early stages of the race that they were slow to react and looked a bit tired and they formed a strategy of what they saw was about to happen during the race.
