It is not sad. He is a Great Champion and should retire as one, not hang on like some guys do.

He will stay closely involved in the sport so we will see him at races with his team :). LOL he will get chubby!!!
NO he will not get "chubby" :p We are too harsh - he is skinnier than most of us :p

No way is he chubby now!!!!

But after a few years off the bike he will be chubby :). Just look at all the retirees. As the years pass the weight creeps on. Many of them aren't overweight, just normal weight but compared to their riding days they are chubby.

But of course. It is only natural. But I doubt he will become truly chubby :)

Today, ahead of tomorrow's cyclotourist ride in Italy, Alberto spoke at a press conference: he revealed the two new main sponsors of his U23 team (rh+ and Polartec) and he also said his ambition is to bring this team up to WT level in the future :)
bad news :( he is already thinking a lot in his future job and this shows that he will retire in 2016

Yep. Surely revealing sponsors and future ambitions is a safe sign with no racing beyond 2016. This is it folks!

What's up with Jesus, he also quitting together with his compadre, or does he still have plans to start his own palmares?
:D I am sure he will quit, he doesn't seem to have any ambitions

Jesus will retire from racing and become the bus driver for the Fundación team. Noval will be the team chef. Unlike Hannah, when GCN makes a video of him preparing the meals, he won't take them along to the supermarket, but instead will go hunting and fishing to get the necessary supplies for each feast. Paulinho will get fat in retirement and become the team's bodyguard.

He said something very interesting though... “Unless I suffer a fall like that of 2014 or if I start my own project in the very short term, my idea is still finish at the end of next season,”

What does he mean by starting his own project ?
We know he has the project of bringing his team to the WT but how would that be a reason for him not retiring at the end of 2016?

Ride for his own team from 2017? :D

That would be so cool. Contador leading team Contador in some warm-up stage races, the Giro, Vuelta in 2017 to cap off his career then he becomes Owner/whatever-the-***-else he wants to be for his glorious team. I'm already a fan of this.

Told ya, his retire plans are complete bs. He's prob saying it so that Tinkoff won't be too big of a nuisance next year.

Bertie has been class from day 1. I think a lot will depend on how good he can get next year. If he really can get that early 2014 from back and win the tour riding dominantly then he may decide to carry on. If he's struggling then he will definitely retire even if he gets the tour win.
What ever he decides he will be missed. We need riders Like Bertie and now Aru, riders not scared to ride aggressive and lay it all on the road.
I don't want to watch a Sky chess match. wind splits marginal gains boring technical ka$ etc I want to watch riders race.

He is still relatively young, I find it hard to believe he will retire in 2016.

But he's been at the top of the sport since 2007. He's sacrificed a lot...I can see why he wants to retire.

This. The pressure and sacrifice is beyond comprehension. He deserves to let down and pursue other goals.

With his new team he could be sponsored by Saxo and have Bjarne manage it :).

I just realized that even when he is considered "chubby" his fat percentage is probably still 25 to 30 points below mine which is quite depressing :(

There's nothing stopping you from making a change for yourself then. :p
Oh I just meant that it's a bit weird to see people on here call a rider who is probably still below 8% body fat "fat" or "thick". It's all relative, I know that, and we are so used to seeing him ride at 4.5% body fat (2014) that we feel 6-7-8% is "chubby", but come on. The picture I posted above clearly shows he is still skinny by every normal measure.

I remember that Michael Valgren once replied to someone on twitter, that guy on twitter mentioned that commentators calling Valgren fat annoyed him, Valgren replied he was at 8.3% body fat.... weird standards we have.
