The biggest issue aging brings is what used to take a relatively small amount of the energy in early years requires immense physical and mental effort when you are in the twilight of your career. It relates to pretty much all racing sides: surviving on sprint stages, bike-handling, resistence under the threat of echelons, fast punchy finishes, concentration and so on. yes, the training numbers could still be OK, but they don't work when it really matters as you reach the mountains already halfway cooked. i'm convinced bertie would in no way in hell have fallen on grand colombier if he felt really well. that's what damn age does even with the greats. as to the vuelta, i'm hoping for a podium and a few stage wins. big champions deserve to retire on a high note. i wouldn't really much like to see contador ending up like basso in 2014-2015, it would be terrible.

Me either, but Basso had cancer.

If the team still wants him in Colorado, shouldn't he be on a plane soon?
Not on startlist for Colorado.
Source? I thought the team wanted them there.
Anyway, we should know soon. I suppose it won't be too long before Trek announce their team.

It's provisional, but he's not included on the full lineup.

And according to his feed, he's still toying around on his Mtn bike today.

As previously stated he needs to get his arse to the start line in Spain. Contribute to a strong line up. Bardet now going.

That is not a confirmation, that is a lazy writer checking a misinformed startlist page and adding this tidbit. Of course the inhabitants of the Contador thread will promptly take this as confirmation to their earlier reports of misguided amateurs imagining startlists.

I predict this particular spin of the "nothing changed" wheel will consume 1 or 2 additional pages.

The inhabitants as you obviously call them in a derogatory way are Contador fans (in the main) who like to discuss what's happening, or not, with, erm, Contador. Strange that, on a cycling fans forum in a thread about Contador. But I do agree it was lazy journalism and of course you are free to post whatever you like.

I can only imagine that he's waiting as long as reasonably possible if the right feelings appear and/or remain. If he already decided something regarding his contract it's probably logical to communicate that together with Vuelta related news.

No new news. They state that he's participation is still up in the air.

I bet he does participate....2014 mystery style.
