Still not sure how Contador and Pantano got such a huge gap on the descent. They were behind De la Cruz before he crashed.
I was thinking about that last night. Not sure what happened there, there was a quick shot of them attacking and then we lost them for a few minutes, came back and they had 40s

one of the stories on this site says Froome saw Nibs go down and waited for him. Maybe this?

Out of all messages from (ex) pros yesterday, I think I liked Pantano's most

Tinkov must be fuming seeing all the love Alberto's receiving from his peers. "But, but, everyone hates him..!"
Pantano was so strong yesterday  . I really hope he does well in the future. After this Vuelta I am not only a Contador fan but also a fan of Trek - Segafredo

I did not have any particular feelings towards the team before Alberto joined, but I must say they've impressed me with their team spirit this year. I'm really happy Alberto can retire on a team that appreciates him with a great atmosphere as opposed to Tinkoff.

i've been watching cycling for 31 years, and he is not only by far the most entertaining rider i've watched (Pantani was also great but his star didn't shine long enough to compare). but also the most successful rider (i'm crediting him with 8 Grand Tours).
He also put Lance back in his box for which i will always appreciate him.

I agree basically.
I've been cycling for 50 years

I see cycling since the times of Anquetil and Bahamontes ....
Many names and great geniuses.
In a fast and almost like a flash the most impressive and different for me were .... Merckx and Ocaña (and their rivalry); Bernard Hinault (2nd palm groves of history and always aggressive and spectacular) .... Pantani climber ... and Alberto Contador.

Right now there is no one for the 3-week or Grand Tour tests that can take its place; but the place of Contador right now has no substitute for the view and less to win 9 Great Returns.

It was pure spectacle and quality.
THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!!
Long live the king!

Ah we are from the same era and I mostly agree. There are Very Few Legends and Alberto is one of them! Cycling no longer has a Champion in the fashion of the Greats; Death or Glory, Ride to Win, if I Breath I attack!. Today the last one hangs up the wheels

Nibali has the right attitude but not quite the required inborn talent. Still he is the only one left standing of the old school that you and I witnessed. It's a shame he fell yesterday :( I'm sure it happened while he was going for it all.

We can only hope a new talent appears who embodies old school racing. Hopefully I live long enough to witness him.

Contador the Best Stage Racer since Hinault!! I wish him only the best and hope he stays in the sport to an extent that we can at least see him now and then.

After all is done and dusted (meaning: tonight) I'm sure Luca Guercilena is *very* happy from the return he got on his investment (although only one win this season) - AC has literally shaped this team identity for the years to come. Hopefully he would find an aggresive GC racer substitute to fill the hole - there aren't many left.

I don't know how exactly that guy made his money, but it's always funny when otherwise seemingly successful people are complete morons.

Contador is the only reason anyone knows his name anyway.
