Yes he could have. The changes in tempo would destroy the diesels.

gooner said:Why not?
On his Giro 2011 and Tour 2009 form I could see him doing it.
gooner said:He could'nt do it in last year's Tour coming off that butal Giro and speaking of 2011 he had no difficulty in dropping Nibali who stayed with Wiggins, Evans and Froome today.
LaFlorecita said:Hm.. I'm not impressed by Alberto's climbing tbh. I think he'll have a hard time riding away from the others in la Vuelta as well.
Publicus said:Sure you aren't. Sure you aren't.![]()
LaFlorecita said:I swear
No seriously, when was the last time Alberto rode away from everyone else? Tour 2009, because Giro 2011 says nothing about how he'll do against Andy, Evans, Wiggo etc. And Tour 2009 is a long time ago, and as I said he has never been as good again and I don't think he ever will.
Dutchsmurf said:In 2010 he still rode away from everyone except Andy tho.
And the 2011 Giro was probably the best Contador ever.

LaFlorecita said:I hope you're right. As I said I'll believe it when I see it.
LaFlorecita said:I will see in la Vuelta, what happens there will tell us whether Alberto lost it or not.
c&cfan said:he is coming from a ban... you have to wait until next year.
LaFlorecita said:That's just silly. Rujano could keep up with him. How is that a great performance? (by Alberto of course)
Carols said:Actually I'm hoping he isn't over training.....plus he will need some race miles in his legs. Even if he is below par he should still win the Vuelta...but you probably won't see the 2011 Giro AC until 2013.
