I don't remember anyone ever referring to Evans as a superstar but his career was on the wane after 2008. May not have been the best but was always a contender.

Merely saying he has no place in the 'wane' discussion. Mere contenders have been known to have good/bad years, ups and downs.

We were discussing Superstars and couldn't find one in recent history that made a comeback after the 'wane' started. Evans simply doesn't belong in the discussion as an example.

That is also what Philippe Mauduit said.

I guess we just have to wait and see.

Maybe. The deterioration happened following giro 2011. May 2011 he is unbelievable. July 2011 he is at the standard he has remained at since. It wast so muc h a wane but a sustained drop in form. Mental fatigue caught up with him?

I understand that but his form in Tour 2011 closely resembles what we have seen ever since
You've got to be ****ting me. In 2011 he had the form/strength to win the Tour. He was the strongest rider in the first week, and was the strongest in the last mountain stage and finished 3rd in the last TT.

In July 2011, he was still very good, considering how he'd just annihilated the field in the hardest GT in recent memory, plus the impending CAS suit that was hanging over his head. Then consider the crash and time lost to the odd application of the rules in TdF stage 1.

Contador had pretty damned good results this year when you consider the whole picture. And gets no credit for it, just gets called "Barabbas" by Walsh and called "old" by the fans. And no one appears to be interested in trying to figure out what AC's natural level actually is.

This...in 2011 he was primo Contador once his knee healed. Go watch the Gap stage! Without the crashes and injury he could have won or been 2nd quite easily in that Tour.

The 2013 AC was a pale imitation of that rider :(

Take it where it belongs.....Not Here

There is no proper discussion of Contador's form this year that can take place outside the clinic. There just isn't. No matter how many silly posts (not singling you out, CS, there are a lot of them) get written about how Contador has faded/waned/is getting older.

We could see a return of the old AC overnight if he wanted to take the risk. It ain't age that happened to Contador this year.

He did get distanced on stage 18 I believe? How does that accord with you assertion he was strongest? I don't agree with you I'm afraid

Yeah you pretty much nailed it here. Speculation of wanes is pointless. I repeat, he has not been the old Contador since giro 2011

Edit. I should have known better than to fuel the speculation. Many want Contador to dominate again and that is hopefully what we will see again next year.

His knee couldn't have healed in one night. I doubt it anyway.
