More and more common points with the 2012 Vuelta:
201 bib for Alberto
Movistar won the opening TTT in 2012 and Castroviejo took the red jersey

It was very well done given the circumstances. Movistar was the team to beat: hometeam, strong, technical and motivated for the win. Still not as bad as the two losers of the day: Dawg and Purito.

And the uncertainty around his form continues. Its idealistic.

When I look at a list of winners for the tour, 2010 says Andy Schleck.
When I look at a list of winners for the giro, 2011 says Michele Scarponi.

They are the official winners of the races, to claim otherwise while knowing these facts is lying. How that came to pass is irrelevant, Alberto Contador did not win the 2010 Tour or the 2011 Giro.

He was declared to have cheated during the 2010 tour, that is the facts, I did not lie.

Why don't you take this nonsense into another thread? Contador won all of those grand tours and if you ask Schleck and Scarponi they will tell you the same.

Contador, en meta: "He ido toda la crono a 200 pulsaciones porque me falta entrenamiento."

'I went all the chrono at 200 beats because I lack training'

Not good...... I never saw him on the front either. Was he?

Still the end result stands him in good stead if he can find some form and the leg holds up.

Yes, +19 is not bad. Hopefully he can ride himself into shape. He can't afford to lose too much time early on though (even assuming he rides himself into shape).

he was always in the front 3-4 positions but rarely if at all taking pulls. he lacks rhytm big time. if he has no problems with the leg though by the second week he should be fine i think

I agree. He didn't talk about his knee( a good signal) but the TTT was too short and this is only the first stage . He needs to take rhytm then some days of race.
We must be patient and wait :)

Didn't he mention his heart rate before? Was it at the Dauphine? Yep, just confirmed:

http://cyclingtips.com.au/2014/06/contador-very-happy-with-how-he-performed-on-stage-two-of-dauphine/

Quote:
“It’s always important,” he said, when asked if being able to stay with his rival was a big boost for his confidence. “The first [attack] was very strong and very long. But my legs worked well and that made it more simple.”

Contador’s main aim in the race is to build form for the Tour de France, although if he manages to beat Froome for a stage win, that will be a big confidence boost for him. He said that he would see how things go, and would be satisfied to see some sign of improvement this week.

“I want to take it day by day,” he insisted. “I guess for the weekend [I’d like to] at least have my heart rate down. Today I reached 203 beats during the climb.”

It's not unusual to have 200 bpm. He didn't race since the Tour, that's about 6 weeks. He had a similar break between Pais Vasco and Dauphine and there he also had over 200 on stage 2.

Evidently it is unusual for him as he said it indicated a lack of fitness. So he needs to get fitter. Race riding will accomplish that as long as the leg holds up :).

He looks almost thinner than at the Tour. If the knee holds up, he'll go guns blazing. When and where, we shall wait and see. The stage wins is nonsense, until I see him dropped.
He has everyone on their toes, despite recovering from a broken leg.

Warrior.

Pain Free Stage!

Notwithstanding the 19" deficit to Quintana and Valverde, this is the most important thing to me for the coming days:

The Tinkoff-Saxo leader said he had not seen the overall classification, but "more than anything, I'm pleased I could follow the pace set down by my teammates. Another good symptom, too, is that I didn't feel any pain in my knee during the stage. The time differences aren't something that worry me too much right now."

:D

well so far not so bad. Bang up knee and lost 19 sec. Could be worst. Good news is he said his knee wasn't hurt and he was able to follow his teammate. Hope his knee won't be a problem and he can ride himself to shape.

stage 3 or 6 would be a better indication. Still realistic. His form is ok. not stellar.

200 BPM is normally when he goes really deep, like when attacking on a MTF.

That is actually quite possible.
I think he should have a decent tt,its a bit similiar to vasco one.modest climb, downhill.we will see, first he needs to not get dropped in stages 6 and 9.

AC seems to be the one of the top 4 gc men that needs the most tt training to keep up his level, and I don't think he has done much to say the least, over the last month :(

I also think he might need someone else to push him to go really deep, like in a TTT or on a mountain stage. Solo vs the clock.... Although it's not a bad TT for him.

This vuelta is a mix of vuelta 2012 and giro 2008.

It would be exciting if he's like 2 min behind in the last week and his form is getting really good.

Stages sucks yea but there's stage 16/20, something crazy is possible there.
