WOW
i though it was all over for him , did not even bother watching the stage
what a surprise:D
never underestimate the king and anything can happen in the GT!!!!!

Still a little speechless. Breathless. And yet this feeling of pure inner joy. Like one have been touched by his holy epicness the bikegod - father of pedalling squares and cadence, ruler over the mountains and skytrains.

One day i will told my grandchildren i saw Contador racing his bike.

Netserks picture says it. Never seen him so happy.

The days like this one separate champions from legends... really difficult to describe it, simply: Alberto Contador, the best cyclist in the world and one of the best of all time
ENHORABUENA CAMPEÓN!!!

I wonder if Contador has been bluffing all these weeks to make Purito think he's going to win. I think if Contador really wanted to blow away Purito in the high mountains, he could do that.

No. this is nonsense. I am new to this sport, but i can see that the victory today was achieved with deals and tactics. Clever, but to claim an individual victory flies in the face of what the slip streaming and team tactics mean.

To my mind, the whole construction of these Tours need drastic revision. I think the only valid prize is for team performance. The rest (whether sprint or climb) is just down to tactics.

The term 'breakaway' says it all.

Thinking about it. Sergio Paulinho deserves a thread for himself. He pretty much destroyed Lastras and just had an epic ride.

Deals? Cos Paolo Tiralongo, a good friend of Alberto, helped him? Alberto's team mates and Tiralongo deserve a statue but seriously Alberto did a whole lot of work himself. He bridged the gap to the break. He was the only one together with Paulinho pulling for about ten km. Then he worked together with Tiralongo. Then he went solo for 13 km. No, this wasn't just deals and tactics.

Yeah after a 100 years of success the sport really needs to stop having winners.;)

alberto probably gave a majority of the stage prize money to tiralongo, as has long been the tradition in cycling. it's really the only gentlemenly thing to do.

Is'nt his contract up at the end of the year?

I wonder is he one of the riders that Riis has signed and is trying to keep quiet. Today would only add fuel to the fire.

Think he is contracted for one more year

Nice call. We should definitively not forget his teammates. Even those who towered over Purito (my god he must have been destroyed today) did their part.

But Paulinho is a beast. What i ride from him.
