The biggest risk of all would be to stay in the Sky death march up Alpe 1st time, descend with Froome on his wheel (He is a good follower of descents) and then get trained off the 2nd climb.

tactically, that's not very bad. but no train in the second ascent.

I mean the sky team should be forced to ride in the front in the first ascent, probably leaving only porte (hopefully not with kannaugh) left.
They can probably lull froome into believing that they will follow his wheels in the descent, but attack him in front of some nasty hairpin.

The lower part of the second climb can be used to upset porte by repeated attacks.

I just hope that there are remnants of breakaway in the final ascent. That will help a serious attack from quintana or AC.

There is one thing for certain. Froome wouldn't want an attack from quintana, esp very early in the final ascent. He can easily loose minutes in a matter of a couple of km, especially in the steeper parts of the alp.

Just got around to reading the British Public's reaction to Contador's crash (by which i mean comments on British newspapers)

The most popular interpretation is that contador deliberately fell in an effort to take Froome out.

Not everyone saw it that way but more did than didn't.

Tell me Hitch, when have you heard anything intelligent coming from the English media in the last 2 weeks?

Kirby is a total moron, Phil is a nutt case, and they are supposedly the experts of cycling in the UK, so no surprise really.

Very brave Contador this Tour. He deserves my admiration. He is been ambitious.

Maybe tomorrow crack (or maybe win the Tour) but he behaves as a champion.

Bjarne's master plan seems to be nonexistant.

All i can think of is Saxo decided that the tt suggests Froome is weak, wil see if they can match him on Alpe and throw everything on Glandon Madeline.

I think it's just Alberto who's not strong enough.

Today was a total failure. It started well, turned into a farce and ended as a disaster. I don´t think I ever seen such a bad tactical layout from Riis.
It was obvious the great master plan didn´t have the fuel it needed.

Bad judgement Riis.

Today was a failure of the legs, not tactics wise. It was Contador's legs that screwed up, not Riis.

I think you missed some of my post:
- the great master plan didn´t have the fuel it needed.

Bad judgement Riis.

Attacking on the decent was a mistake, no team mates out there, 3 SKYborgs with Froome, it was obvious it would fail.
Sending out Roche and Paulinho could have payed out, but a huge gamble, from the start it was clear SKY wouldnt allow any Saxo riders out in front, waste of good energy in no mans land.

So yes, Riis to blame.

Today is not a day where you can hide behind tactics. Tomorrow maybe.

Nobody likes it, but teh best tactic has always been and will always be to wait and be patient. Rodriguez and Quintana aren't making inroads due to their bravado and "trying something"

He is suffering, man he is suffering :(

Last time I saw Contador like that, was 2011 Galbier.

Next day - pow.

Everyone but Nairo and Murito suffered today. Froome looked weak for the first time ever and Porte though probably best climber today may tire too.

Tomorrow all out.
