I don't think Froome is afraid of anything (other than BILHARZIA). Didn't the wattages indicate not even 2009 Contador would have beat him last year?

Contador showed zero weakness in 09. He was convincing in every stage he won and also those that he just needed to follow wheels.

Froome in 13 was great at the start but was beatable in the mountains in the third week and narrowly beat AC in the hilly TT.

I think they will be evenly matched in the mountains for the most part but Contadors apparent superior recovery could give him the edge by the end. I think that it is certainly a positive for AC that there is nomeaningful TT earlier in the race

Give me link of stages of Tour 07, Giro 08 please.Where the superior recovery to his opponents was really noteable.
With Giro 11 I think you mean Zoncolan-Gardeccia where in comparison with Nibali he was almost even at Zoncolan,but at Gardeccia he was a lot better than him

Same thing happens in long and tough classics where a non-sprinter might very well happen to outstprint a sprinter.

But ofcouse the better you recover, the better you will do in the last week and that is indeed something that has often been said about Contador. However, last year he got worse in the alst week (so did Froome though).

Last year were not exactly the norm for AC tough. In general his tts have been very strong in the gts. Look at his tt in the tour 11 for example, in a race where he was not at his best, he still was probably fresher than most and got a very good placing (Evans was a beast ofc, but still a very nice race by AC)

Yep,tt is a very common argument,but I dont think its right to measure recovery by this.Like you said,last year he was worse in third week (imo due going too much in red following better riders than he was),not that great example of course foz he was heavily off-form.
I think 2010 tour is better example,his TT wasnt good.In 2008 giro I dont think he was
best in 3rd week either.

Im not saying I dont believe he has superior recovery,but imo it is a bit overrated.If one doesnt give me clear arguments (i think there are these peoples,i dont have a that good cycling and physical knowledge)

Regardless he recovers better or not in the 3 week, i think Contador is worries about his ITT. I think he knows there is a possibility to gain time in the mountain, but that time means nothing if he can't defend it in ITT. The last thing I want to see is the andy Schleck episode with 24hr yellow jersey and just to loose it to Evans. On a side note, sure Froome is superior in ITT, but he hasn't doing any ITT either all year long (if I can recall).

If he's not confident about his ITT, then I expect him to follow attacks and then ride away from whomever is in that group.

Yeah, I'm not sure Contador's recovery is superior to that of any other top GT rider.

If it were, we'd expect him to become better relative to his top GT opponents over the course of a GT. But it's hard to tell because of varying efforts, it's not like they go full gas every single time.

Not saying he isn't, but I'm just not sure you can be confident he is just casually watching some dominant performances.


As for my earlier post saying 2009 Contador's wattage is less than 2013 Froome's, I can't give a source it's something a read last year in the clinic.

very true about his gears. nowadays he seems to push way bigger gears than in the past, most of the time he's in the big ring on the climbs. kreuziger also uses absolutely gonchar-botero-sayaresque gears. he was always climbing on sheer power but now his cadence is even lower

well as long as they go fast, i'm ok with it. for nice style, there still is frank schleck and soon riccardo ricco again
