Looking back at the final kms, Contador actually tried to follow Poels, and didn't manage to bridge any gap, barely got to Pozzo at the summit. I'am now psychologically set for major disappointment tomorrow, you better not expect anything AC fans. Something is wrong with his form.
And if he does good, then it will be a good surprise.

Do people think Contadors form has regressed since Andalusia?

We don't know how good his form really was in Andalucia, but he's not looking good here. Will have to wait till tomorrow to draw conclusions though.

To me it looked like he wanted someone else to close the gap and then just gave up. The fact that he didn't let Kreuzier help chase might tell the hopeful he isn't too worried about Poels.

Yeah you're right about that, but him and Froome dropped everybody with 2 min or something.

anyways, im not concerned if he doesn't smash everybody tomorrow. I think he is only using these one week races for race rhythm, so he comes into Giro at 90 %. He can't use too much energy right now, or it will cost him in the 3rd week of the Tour.

Relax Flo. Contador is still the favourite for the stage tomorrow. With Basso and Kreuziger he has all the firepower he needs.

Kreuziger dropped to the back of the group. Not sure if he had the power to chase. I still think Contador played it smart and didn't go full gas and let him open for counters from Purito etc, and maybe he didn't knew Nibali got dropped. And in form Nibali would've attacked near the top i think.

WTF?? It was a stage similar to a Lombardia. I think he did good

No one expected him to win, however he is now 32 seconds behind Poels and it will be very hard to make up all that time.

I think he at least looked better than Nibali and Quintana. Anyway, tomorrow is really different, Poels has always been inconsistent and punchy, anything can happen

I worry that there is something wrong with his form but I find it hard to believe he's this much off the pace after what he was able to do in RdS, so hopefully he's just riding these for the build up.

Contaador fans are the biggest panickers in cycling, not only fleur. Besides we're still 2 months away from giro lol He shouldn't be the same as last year.

But he should be by far the best climber in this race.

That would be even more disappointing than him just not being in great shape :(

I've definitely got more of the jitters this year, I'll admit! So keep up the good work telling me to engage my brain and be rational!!

Why? He's set himself a massive objective that he's got to race clever to achieve. It isn't realistic to think that he ran ride everything to win all year and not feel the effects of it by July.

I love how attacking a rider he is, but he hasn't got a limitless fund of form. He has to pace himself this year of all years.

You don't seem to understand that I am not panicking, I just want him to win this race. I take it day by day. I'm not thinking about the Giro or even Catalunya. I want him to win this race and if he doesn't I'll be disappointed.

That wasn't a climb, so i don't know what you're talking about.

If poels does this tomorrow to contador i'll be a little bit annoying but even then, not that concerned. He needs to be good in the giro, not here.

The double is a very hard task either way. Better to go into the Giro with some race wins in the bank already. He risks coming out of the season with absolutely nothing.

What I mean, is that he should drop everyone tomorrow but I doubt he will.

Can't want contador to win everything, he's not a cyborg. He's going for a double this year, maybe settle down expectations a bit on a minor race? Common sense

He's still the favorite for tomorrow though;

Mercifully, we have to look elsewhere for those particular qualities.
