How good Contador could be on the course isn't necessarily the point. It's about politics. Izagirre will almost certainly go as national champion and, especially as he would be a great domestique in the road race. If Contador would be outright favourite to win the TT - like if it was a proper mountain - then I'm sure he would be selected. But on this course, at best he's probably an outside bet for Bronze, and arguably doesn't have a better chance than Izagirre anyway. So, with the politics of the road race selection, it might not be enough to get him the place over another helper for Valverde.Miburo said:Contador is by far the best ITT of all the spanish riders. Contador is imo one of the if not the best ITT ever on hilly courses. Rio isn't hilly enough though for his standards but i'll bet anyone that he'll be the best spanish rider on it.
