Maybe I am missing something but I dont see where that article is saying anything about him not doing San Sebastian. Only that he will do Eneco and not Tour de L'Ain.

Eneco is from 6-12 of august, San Sebastian is the 14th and the Vuelta begins the 18th so he could so all of it (I am not saying that he will - only that it is technically possible and that the article doesnt say wether he wont or not)

So poor Birdsong will be a bottle carrier again.

I hope and think he will sign for another team where he will get a free role in the Tour. I think he is torn between that option on the one hand and the safety of goinf back to his old team.

Eneco: Alberto Contador almost can't wait until the 6th of August:

"Eneco Tour will be a very special race for me for several reasons. First, it will be my return to competition, so I'm excited, because any rider like to compete and, secondly, I am very excited to come back here because the race is raced in two countries where cycling culture is deeply rooted and where cycling moves more people than anywhere else. Here I have always felt at home. The route, moreover, is maybe not the most favorable to me, but my ultimate goal here is to take the pace of competition to meet the objectives of the end of theseason".

What do you think of my new user pic, I think it perfectly shows Alberto's grace on a bike.

I am a bike pic snob! I have seen very very few pics of helmeted cyclist that are as good as unhelmeted. I saw one of him last year at the Giro, he had his helmet hanging from the bars and maybe glasses also off.

Check out rapha's photostream on flickr. Here is their Swiss Alps set but they have quite a few sets to lose yourself in. It's great to set to slideshow and chill sometimes. http://www.flickr.com/photos/raphacc/sets/72157607672261689/with/2941356172/

One of his groupies on twitter is a pretty respectable portrait artist and she has some nice images on her page. Sketches can be very evocative. Of course with a little talent you can take a photo and turn it into a sketch in photoshop and have it all. I like to do that with my family photos.

"He smiled and his brown eyes flickered. There is a serenity in his eyes that is very different from Lance's nakedly burning intensity, but you also have the unmistakable impression that something is raging behind those walls of nondescript brown."

Poor Alberto :)

I hope this is the last time he tweets this kind of stuff. It comes with the territory and will be his "normal" for the foreseeable future.

I have to say I'm a bit worried about Contador riding the Eneco tour. It's a very nervous race ridden on dangerous roads where there definitely will be some serious crashes. If Contador gets injured...:(

Unless Bjarne is an complete idiot, the whole team in Eneco will be forced to be in the top 20 at all times no matter what it costs to avoid any kind of accident. ;)

Yes you are not alone, I am also worried and one of the British ES guys talked about it yesterday.
