Yeah Sastre is a legend. And the thing is, you can learn a lot about a rider from what they say about him. Also funny to look at who the guys are that talk **** about him - Lance Andy and Wiggins. hmmm

Did Wiggins explicitly say something about Sastre? Or are you still going on about the 'winners we can believe in' thing?

Aren't you British?

I'm British, and a British Wiggins fan for that matter - I'm delighted he won.

But it annoys me too that loads of people who know nothing about cycling are now chatting about Wiggins being the best, as if they're suddenly experts because they've watched some cycling for a couple of weeks.

Johnny come lately idiots.

Well, he is not be the best one but he has been the best the whole season in terms of victories, UK cycling fans should be proud of him.

If the British want to hype one of their own, who cares. Everyone likes a winner. Wiggins is not the best but he has had the best year of any of the GC riders currently competing and he was definitely the best in the Tour. The people writing him off for the 2013 Tour are just as ignorant as the others.

Key points:

- While the TdF, he was training and have seen the eleven uphills finishes.

- He saw Giro and Tour on TV to study his rivals, Wiggins mostly, vulnerable on climbs, Evans downhill (level), Nibali and Froome growing and Van Garderen, Pinot and Rolland dangerous at long/medium term.

- Hard work on Sierra de Guadarrama and Sierra Nevada simulating Tour stages with 4000 m of slopes.

- He won't peak early because he will go to the Worlds and Giro Lombardia. So he is nursing his form despite he has already a good base form.

- Eneco Tour his first race to prepare La Vuelta but his true revenge will be at TdF 2013.

- He thinks ASO will keep two long ITT to give Wiggo the chance to challenge him but at the same time hopes more and better mountain stages.

- About the TTT he is asking Bjarne new powerful signs and Riis agree to his requests.

Nicholas Roche abandoning his team leader role for alberto?

Can't copy the link from my phone for some reason but I see that AC may be getting his very own super domestique?

Or would his role be to gather WT points in the races AC was not partaking?

I'm liking it either way

Lance and Wiggins were pretty much correct in what they said about him. Wiggins said he wasn't the best of riders but took his chance to win the tour so fair play to him (or are you referring to Wiggins omitting him as 'a credible winner'?) irony being the same applies to Wiggins really, well, at least until he doubles next year:cool:

Lance said the same thing in a arrogant way by calling the 2008 tour a poor field. Prompting the second coming and him not winng his eighth tour :p

Frank, well he was just venting frustrations that he was so close but still not good enough to win the tour. He was no where near strong enough to hold off Evans for the tour win in the final week and with Andy so far off the GC Sastre was CSC only chance. Frank would have needed to gain 3 minutes on Alpe d Huez to have any chance of winning. Andy and Frank probably got home and talked themselves round to the idea that that would have been possible.

To be honest I didn't watch any of the 2006 Tour nor follow it online so any of Sastre's behaviour in that race doesn't figure into my view of him. It doesn't surprise me though he very rarely pulls unless he has to.

A bit of both I think - which would also make it attractive to a rider like Roche: Be a dom for the best rider of the generation and ride your own chance in other races.

I think Riis got so shocked by hard the mighty fall when they crash and living with the risk of relegation because of one rider being banned is something you want to ensure against.

In a good season - next hopefully - a rider like Contador can singlehandedly win the world tour or the team, but oh boy if somehting happens. If Riis can buy the insurance in having other riders taking points in other races I think he'll love that.

In the end I don't think he ever wanted to put all his eggs in the Spanish basket, but with how things turned out with exodus and all that he probably didn't have any choice in the matter - and getting AC in the first place was the scoop of his DS career anyway...

Totally agree. I don't think that AC would have resigned with Saxo if he had not been given cast iron guarantees from Riis over future quality signings. The strength displayed by Sky will only have given more impetus to this.

I am visualising it already. A Contador, Navarro, CAS, Roche etc train destroying Sky on mountains next year, then AC leaping away 4-5k from the finish like a gazelle with a firework up its backside

So Roche is joining SBTB next year?

Yeah, just like Wiggins did this year - oh, wait :)

If you squinted your eyes really tightly and then shook your head back and forth rapidly while watch the mountain stages, Wiggins totally lept away 4-5K from the finish like a gazelle with a firework up its backside.
