Say if Contador finds himself up the road on a mountain stage with a couple of the other real favourites for Red. And at the same time Roche is in danger of losing time amongst the minor placing contenders. Would Riis actually consider having the Saxo climbing domestiques pace him to protect those juicy points? After all a seventh or a tenth or a thirteenth at the Vuelta could make a significant difference to Saxo's points total.
A second queation: What role will Roche play for Contador next year? Contador is obviously the last rider to need a metronomic train pacing him up mountains. So what will he need a fringe GC rider who typically finishes 6th to 16th in GT for? Will Roche be hanging around so Alberto can have the novel luxury of someone to give him a bottle or a wheel when there are twelve guys left? Or will he be deployed riding a massive pace early on climbs until he breaks to soften everyone up for Contador's attacks?

Afrank said:Saxo Banks main priority will be to put Contador in red. I can't see them sending people to help Roche when they can instead help Contador to win the vuelta. But if Contador gets a gap on the other GC contenders and the other Saxo guys can't do anything to help him then I think it would be a good tactic by Riis to have them help Roche instead. Of course I can't recall anyone sending guys back to help a guy who will be on the team next year in order to get WT points. So I doubt something like this would happen.
