So CAS thinks both the transfusion theory and the contaminated meat theory are equally unlikely so they just ban him for two years? WTF?

If you combine dodgy rulebooks with dodgy UCI presidents and dodgy political links, the whole "ruling" becomes dodgy. My faith in cycling is dead.

So both the meat and the transfusion were listed as unlikely, so instead they went for a contaminated food supplement? So basically they say "it was something you ate, but not the meat". How does that make any sense?

Indeed can make sense. If the defendent does not argue that, it's not the court job to find arguments for them or against them. They judge according to what both parts argue.

Banned "according to the rules", but it leaves a bad taste, especially after LA getting off the other day.
What does this ban achieve?
-A. Schleck is gifted a TDF win
-We miss AC at the Tour this year and we have the most boring Tour for years with Evans beating Schleck again
-Scarponi gets the 2011 Giro

Not very satisfactory:(

So according to the document disclosed by CAS, Contador's suspension would start as of january 25th 2011, which means no racing till january 2013. Or have i misunderstood it?

I'm disappointed. I thought this would happen but still hoped otherwise. Can't really see how they could come to any other decision.

I wouldn't call myself a Contador fan but will still consider him the winner of both the 2010 Tour and 2011 Giro, despite what the records might show.

Probably a good decision but the best GT rider of this generation no longer has quite the palmares he had yesterday...

There are some bizarre comments and double standards here.

Contador rode for Saiz, then he rode for Bruyneel alongside Armstrong, then he rode for an Astana minus Bruyneel but backed by Vinokourov ... uhm, how can anyone seriously imagine he didn't "dope"???? That doesn't mean he isn't fantastically talented but get real!!

We can argue he only choose Bruyneel

If everything Landis said of the 2006 Tour is true (and I don't doubt it), then he is still the true winner. Of all the dopers he was the best of them all.
this!

but that's the thing... i now look at all races this way... doesn't matter what CAS says, i know who won.

all the erasers in the world, aren't going to change that... it's farcical!

It's not bizarre its actually very simple. Well simple minded. They only reason they even remotely like Contador is because of their pathological hate of Armstrong. If he still rode for Bruyneel they would hate Contador and they would be celebrating right now. Actually they would all likely be calling the decision unjust and saying he should be suspended for 1.5 years starting today.

But because of their hate of Armstong Contador can do no wrong in their eyes. If Contador gets picked up for murdering a troop of boy scouts tomorrow I am sure they would have a justification for why it was a humane and a just thing to do. In fact it was very courageous of him taking on those boy scouts all by himself.

So when exactly will he be able to ride again?

August 5th, 2012

Why don't you read the CAS press release for all the details : http://www.tas-cas.org/d2wfiles/document/5649/5048/0/Media20Release20_English_2012.02.06.pdf

The Panel will rule in a separate award and at a later stage on the request filed by UCI to impose a fine of at least EUR 2’485’000.
Is that the prize money or what his fighting of the decision cost the UCI ?

He got the ban because he couldn't explain how the Clen got into his system so couldn't prove that it was not his fault, Zirbel had pointed at that back in the day. Funny how the CAS dismiss the "meat" theory too...shame on Bertie and his advisors for bringing that up and wasting everyone's time and money in the process.
