Alberto Contador suspended until August 2012 (loses all results July 2010 - Jan 2012)

So will CAS release a full report, because this press release has me scratching my head a bit (on the food supplement front). The one silver lining, if there is one is that he only sits out the next 6 months. He's going to crush the Vuelta.

Edit: since he no longer gives points (for 2 years) does he go back to Riis or take his skills to another team?

The good news is Contador is retiring. At least he said he would retire if he was found guilty. We know what a man of his word he is and how honest he is. Oh wait never mind I guess he won't retire. To bad it would be a much more exciting sport without him.

No wait! This one is even dumber, holy moly, it´s my lucky day!

I may have written about this elsewhere before.

But I'd love the irony if in fact Bertie was served a Landis-ban. Not used Clenbuterol (Landis: testosterone) all year (honest meat mess-up), but blood doped as usual. Got banned for the wrong offense, feeling oh so wronged, yet knowing he had a ban loooong coming, and thus can't really defend himself.
Overdue ban, wrong substance/method, but justice comes in many shapes and forms.

I needed this after the LA buy-me-free.

End of the first paragraph of CAS release says August 5th 2012....

"Considering that none of the conditions for eliminating or reducing the period of ineligibility were met, on the basis of the UCI Anti-Doping Regulations, the Panel decided to sanction Alberto Contador with a two-year period of ineligibility. The Panel decided to fix the starting date of the suspension on 25 January 2011, which is the date on which the RFEC proposed to suspend Alberto Contador for one year.

If Andy is going to be smug I'll seriously throw out some insults I've never said before.

Andy is going to be smug and I would say let it roll off your back. He's going to do what he's going to do, but like Scarponi, he knows he didnt win that Tour. As for AC, I think he should look at the silver lining and look forward to racing in August and possibly the World Championship. Wouldn't it be ironic if he comes back as World Road Champion? I doubt it will happen, but it would be ironic.

Another question: does ASO ban him from the 2013 Tour?

So can Bertie appeal this to the Swiss courts or something ? Probably not a good idea but I'm sure his lawyers are all for it...like they told him to turn down the lenient Spanish Federation judgement...would the UCA and WADA have appealed it? Probably.

I'd love to see what happens when this is taken to a real court and not a sport tribunal.

Of course, I don't really mind this sanction. He'll be back at the Vuelta.

They can rehire him after he serves his time but I think in the meantime they are required to dismiss him. But now a days its rare a team not named Astana will take back a rider that got caught cheating on their team. I think it would almost be a certainity the Tour will refuse to let him ride in 2013. He is probably looking at 2014 for the Tour at the earliest.

Movistar?

.

Exactly.
He's not called Old&slow for nothing.;)

Once again the UCI cover themselves in glory by now trying to scavenge 2 million from their self-enduced mess.

Meanwhile, (much as I like Michele S) we have an OP old boy and a part time cyclist handed a GT a piece.
Total sham bols.

Well if Valverde rides it this year, then I don't see what grounds the ASO could have in preventing Contador riding it in 2013.

Well, this sucks. I mean, for me, as a cycling fan, this really sucks. If he did dope, than the rules are clear, he should be banned. However great athlete he is, and however much I think he's a nice and likable guy - rules are rules.
But, as I said, for someone who enjoys cycling - this is a great loss.

However, it's certainly not the end of the world. For us, or for Contador. He will be back, and I somehow have the feeling - he'll be better than ever and hungry for wins. I wish him great career and to never come close to any illegal substances ever again.

Are you a fan or not?!

6 month ban, I don't care if they take his official results away, we all know what happened. You can't rewrite history when it's all on tape ;)

I just can't stand this anymore. Andy Schleck is from now on "Tour Champion."

well maybe he quit cycling at the end of the season, he achieves his goal

I'm not pro-Andy but isn't his fault here, and Scarponi... I like him but youtube giro videos kills him:D
