This is Remco vs Pogacar to be honest. Both will be alone after Keutenberg and then Pogacar drops Evenepoel in Cauberg.
I'm curious, however, to see how the transition from the pavé of Roubaix for Pogi goes. Shouldn't be a problem, but it's practically an unknown in modern specialized cycling. At the same time, I didn't expect Remco to be this good out of the gate and he won't have the fatigue of those racing since March. In theory, he will be increasing over the week and beyond.

This is the price to pay in order to become the GOAT. If he wants to surpass Merckx, he needs to beat his rivals even if he is not in his peak shape

I'm more uncertain about Pogacar's shape in Liège.

2023: Jaen, Andalucia, Paris-Nice, San Remo, E3, Flanders, Ardennes.
He didn't do PR but he did Paris-Nice which was required more effort than UAE Tour.

In Amstel, he didn't look as fatigued but wasn't very strong, and in Flèche, little can be concluded.
In Liège, we couldn't see any results because of the crash.

In 2025 he has competed fewer days but he´s done PR, which is exhausting.

I think he might be out of shape for Liège. I thought he wouldn't do Amstel and Flèche. Flèche is a hill sprint, but it's over 200km.

The problem this yerar is that he had to compete in the UAE Tour because his teamates failed to win it. Otherwise, he´d have started the season at Strade Bianche like last year.

To the bolded, of course "out of shape" means slightly on the downside of a peak. It could be the intensity of Flanders-Roubaix leaves him less well off than if he had prepared exclusively for the Ardennes. And what if Remco is on a trajectory to be devastating by Liege?

I'm not worried. He is chasing history so he wants to win everything! There are few feats Merckx didn't accomplish and the Ardennes treble is one of them.

FW may be a long distance attack with the two aliens racing. I'd be surprised if either Remco or Pog are in the peloton by the second time over the Mur de Huy

Hard do see anyone having a chance against Pogacar and Evenepoel here. They'll just attack from 70 km out and then what's anyone gonna do? I see that Pidcock and Van Aert are third and fourth favorites at the bookmakers, but I can't envision a path to victory for either. They'll try and hang on for as long as possible and then they'll drop. I see a rider like Healy having a better shot, because he has the balls to anticipate and is a decent hilly rouleur who could win if he got like a 2 minute headstart and tactics come into play.

Let's go! I don't get my usual page 1 post. Be that as it may......

I actually wonder how Evenepoel will cope with all the breaking and turning. He was the only one of the galacticos to struggle on the Glasgow wc circuit. Ofcourse the climbs are longer here, but still a lot of technical stuff in this race...

Amstel is not comparable to Glasgow at all. Amstel is not really more technical than brabantse pijl or the olympics in Paris.
