Talansky is a fighter but after California I honestly thought he would prepare a top5-ish form for Dauphine. He will have troubles to have a good Tour if his shape curve between Dauphine and TdF will not turn out to be steeper than other GC riders who are riding Dauphine.

Based on this form the best we can hope for is for him to sneak into the bottom half of the top 10 through attrition.
Was hoping for better but I guess that's being too greedy.

He seems like a solid guy who had a pretty good early career but stumbled for some reason, probably physical.

I'm sure he was incredibly frustrated that he couldn't be a consistent GT contender because he certainly had the ability. Hope the rest of his life is great.

Proper shocked by this. Wish him well for the future.

The stage where he won the Dauphine GC was one of the best stages I can remember watching.

I'm stunned. I have to think either health or personal issues.

Because otherwise you would not retire with basically your best years as a cyclist to come. Cyclists peak from 28yo-32yo most of the time

Wow, did not see that coming. I can't imagine how hard it will be to retire from what is essentially your career/life at only 28. I wish him the best of luck.

sad, he showed in the tour of calofornia, he still could be with the best.

No he showed he could still be among the best on the domestique scene (with a few other top WT riders competing.) Let's wait for his explanation as to why he's retiring, but this doesn't really come as a shock to me. He's had a hard time getting good form, luck, and results.

a bit harsh, after he he was 5th in the last Vuelta. I always sthought that he was on the same level as König, Talansky was better in one week staage races while König was more constant when it came to good results in gts.
I liked him as a rider, I wish him well for the future.

Nah tour of calofornia is a world tour race, and he beat riders like majka, thats a world class rider. He also finished 5th in the vuelta espana 1 year ago, talansky was and is still a decent rider, so this is a big surpise. Talented guy

Where was he before that? Where was he after that? He was an excellent rider sometimes, but imo he had a very hard time getting the few results he did get. I guess that's why I'm not that surprised he's retiring. Im very glad he's got a family and full life ahead of him with other passions. He doesn't look like someone who's leaving full of despair.

I did not see this coming. A big surprise for me. Personal issues or demons. Not sure what to make of it.

Well good luck in his new life. looks like a great guy to me.

Results is hardly the reason he is retiring considering he was top 5 a year ago in the Vuleta and 3rd in ToC this year and won a stage...hardly no results

Maybe he doesnt like the life style and what is required to get results

So every young rider that is hyped on here can end up like Talansky .....he looked like a rider who could do great things a few years back

He was vying at one stage for GC leadership in Argle with Dan Martin

Now he is retiring and Martin has just signed a contract with UAE for 2million....

Maybe he was having trouble finding a new WT team?

I suppose that plays into it, but who knows. I remember hearing he had some personal or family issues last year. Not sure, but isn't he also a new dad? I think many things probably went into this decision. I know it's easy from our perspective to question moving on at such a young age, but pro cycling is a brutally hard sport and can be a difficult lifestyle (travel, away from family, etc.) on some people. Maybe there are just greater priorities in his life at this point. Whatever the reason, I wish him the best. He's got some good palmares to his name, he should be proud.

Or he just wants to do something different while he is still young enough to change life direction with a young family, maybe he just got bored with the rigmarole of training and traveling all the time. I adore riding my bike but think I would lose the love for it if I had it as a job.

I'm surprised too. He was one of those eternal promises. At least he has won the Dauphiné. Without all those injuries and crashes he could have achieved more.
