Where were they then today in Lombardia ? ... Androni for such a small team was leading the race for God sake my dear stefrees ! Only one finished of the 34 that have.

It depends on whether you just look at results sheets or watch races. For example, Jérôme Pineau has had a fantastic year. If you just looked at his results on CQ you wouldn't know that. If you look at results sheets, Radioshack have been a much better team than they've seemed - a 4th in San Sebastián for example looks a lot better than "Zubeldia sat on the back of a big group for the last 40km and then attacked at the finish to get the placement". People who watched many of the races where Radioshack have placed well would be hard pushed to remember them (who remembers that Tiago Machado was 5th to Morredero in Castilla y León? Very few as it wasn't even shown, but we remember the Contador-Antón-Soler-Mosquera battle), yet riders for teams like Bbox and Cofidis could finish 80th or 90th but be absolutely key to the plot of the race.

If this is the case, I hope Sella rides the Tour and is able to stir things up in the mountains. Perhaps a worthwhile bet for the KOM competition?

Androni are guaranteed a place in all 3 GTs, but unlike the ProTour teams, are not obliged to appear at all three. Which, depending on who the seven riders apparently to be named this week are, might be a good thing.

I'm fairly certain that the Pro Tour teams aren't obligated to appear at all 3 GT's. Euskaltel Euskadi didn't appear in this year's Giro.

There is trouble ahead ...

DAOTEC said:
Savio has a plan "B" if ....

Savio: "I know nothing of the Tour and Vuelta." But I have a plan "B".
Androni Giocattoli-Serramenti-Diquigiovanni is ranked 17th in the World Ranking, that means the team has won the right to participate in the Giro d'Italia, Tour de France and Tour of Spain next year, according to the agreement of 2008 between the three Grand Tours and the UCI . However Gianni Savio is not so sure, and the Venezuelan manager feels that it will not. Pending an official announcement from the organizers and the UCI if they agree, Savio is cautious and has secured at first a similar program for his team next year. But at the same time Savio makes very clear, that he has "a card up his sleeve", if AGSD may have automatic access to the French and Spanish tours.

Savio answered Bici questions regarding the possible participation in the Giro, Tour and Vuelta of ANDRONI-GIOCATTOLI-SERRAMENTI-DIQUIGIOVANNI. "I do not know exactly. I was told that at the World Championships, the Congress of the UCI decided to change the rules. For the moment, it is doubtful that the top 17 of the global ranking will automatically participate in the Giro, Tour and Vuelta. "

The Venezuelan coach is calm. "We won the Italian championship for teams, thanks to an agreement between the Italian Federation and RCS, we have earned the right to be invited to the Giro. Of the others (Tour and Vuelta) I know nothing. I only know that the rules in this world worth today may change tomorrow. "

While waiting for news, we do not make any illusion. "My feeling is that the first 17 teams in the World Ranking will not participate in the three Grand Tours, and yes the ?18? ProTour teams plus four guests will." "It would be good news to take the Tour and the Vuelta, but if not, there will be no argument from me," he says.

It's all very philosophical. "In recent years, I made my way with dignity, and I am waiting to be told I can do Participate in the races, that is very important to me. I am very at ease, I don't have the problems like others, having to participate in these grand tours, in order to survive. I wait for the decision of the organizers and the UCI, and then with great respect I will take my decision, but first they have to agree, "he explains.

"I have everything well thought out for the Androni Giocattoli team next season, with a racing program about the same as this year. If the UCI and the organizers confirm, that I have the right to participate in the Tour and the Vuelta as well, I have a card up my sleeve to reinforce economic resources for the team, with a second title sponsor, and to include at least five or six cyclists on top of the 16 we have, "he said.

Above all, Savio has his own philosophy and follows a path that has allowed him to survive. "Fortunately, I have the support of sponsors for many years, my jersey looks like a newspaper, but there are 27 consecutive years of existing on it, I don't have to be afraid of losing the team if I lose one or two sponsors," he concludes. This year, all ProTour teams has been obliged to take part in all ProTour events: next year, according to the announcement of the World Tour earlier this month, they are obliged to be in all the World Tour races next season (although they apparently didn't tell RCS or Unipublic of the plan)

José Rujano correrá en 2011 en el Androni Giocattoli de Gianni Savio

SAVIO-RUJANO.jpg

"The agreement is for two years, provided that Rujano can remain part of the Gobierno del Zulia equipe for the various national and international competitions of the America Tour, such as the Vuelta al Táchira, the Vuelta a Colombia and the Vuelta a Venezuela, and will join Diquigiovanni Androni starting in February through May with the specific mission of winning the Giro d'Italia, which is the main goal of everyone, " Alemán said during the presentation of the Tour of Venezuela.

However, BICICICLISMO can confirm that the representative of Rujano in Europe, Giuseppe Acquadro maintains in advanced negotiations with Eusebio Unzue for incorporation into Movistar for the next two years. The telephone operator's interest in Venezuela is large and the Navarre manager is determined to give a second chance to the Venezuelan cyclist, who was already under his discipline in 2008.

By the way in case Rujano will deside in the end to become a Movistar afer all, I wouldn't mind either

Androni-Giocattoli one step ahead at Tour de San Luis

” Savio said. “Vicioso is also a good sprinter but he is made for the breakaway-type sprints. He is not really a sprinter for the peloton, like Ferrari. I think the next sprints at the Tour de San Luis will be peloton sprints in stage three and stage seven.”
