Andy quit for the same reason that Greg quit -- EPO took over the entire peloton in the early '90s. Greg is on record as saying one year he was at the top of the sport, on the podium at the TdF. Then the next year the water-bottle-carriers are passing him up the HC climbs in the Alps. Same thing with Andy. The choice was to either dope to keep up or just be a nobody at the back of the pack. So they both left instead.
