My position hasn't changed in the slightest. I asked about his change of appearance. Face and body. I mentioned roids with my tongue in my cheek. The post got moved to the clinic. I said I found his facial transformation more interesting. Some members cleared that up for me. There is nothing else to my post. The end.

Last post.

The answer is that neither his face nor his body changed and that you are a blithering idiot and a troll. Now go away.

I'm confused. I've been reading up about Andy Hampsten recently, wanting to find out about his career and acheivements and what kind of guy he was and I stumble across this picture:

hamp_01.jpg

Okay, so he was a blonde-haired, buck-toothed, thin climber type. I then go to his wikipedia page. I click the picture:

800px-Andy_HAMPSTEN.jpg

What? Is this the same guy? is it some kind of optical illusion? Did he start doing roids in the nineties? I'm lost. Can someone fill me in?

Dude, get a grip. Please take Andy out of the clinic. This athlete was clean. Trust me. Please do not make these accusations about Andy Hampstead. You are making yourself look silly!

I'm waiting for a new user who has been watching this board for a long time but just recently joined to post that they know someone who knows it's a fact that Andy used steroids and doped. They won't reveal who that person is, or how they know, and they certainly won't reveal anything about themselves, but they will expect us to believe it.

Then, when forum members demand proof, they'll throw up a persecution complaint about how this forum is poorly moderated, and mean people are allowed to get away with anything.

Wiki:

As described by Robert Bond in The International Review of Law, Computers & Technology, trolls usually exhibit a typical pattern of behavior:

In ‘The Art of Trolling’ published on the web it is suggested that ‘in Usenet usage, a “troll” is not a grumpy monster that lives beneath a bridge accosting passers by, but rather a provocative posting to a news group intended to produce a large volume of frivolous responses. The content of a “troll” posting generally falls into several areas. It may consist of an apparently foolish contradiction or common knowledge, a deliberately offensive insult to the readers of the news group or a broad request for trivial follow-up postings.[3]

Just sums up this thread perfectly..............

Thanks for the response

I am still at odds with this trolling matter, but will leave it for the moment

Another thing the forum could do is draw up a list of riders that people are allowed to speculate about without being termed a troll.

That would make it fairer on new users who don't know the forum policy.

The OP is pretty silly though; I can't tell the difference between the pictures. It's just a different angle. But maybe he saw the threads where this is a commonly used tactic against other riders and got confused.

Why, he might ask, do the mods think it's trolling to post pictures about some riders and not others?

Maybe you've created this situation.

damn, your answer is right there. No need for an edict that prevents/allows speculation about Hampsten. The OP is trollish garbage, and would be trollish garbage no matter which cyclist was in the photo, if that so-called 'difference' in appearance was used to insinuate any kind of doping.

You don't need a forum policy to know that the OP is BS.

it's not as though this is a Nobel Symposium. The Peace Prize won't go to the wrong person as a result of the goings on in an anonymous online forum. Maybe the best strategy for the troll hunters out there would be to simply not respond to a thread they deem unworthy of their hyperacuity...

I can see your point that we should be aware that certain threads may imply intentionally or otherwise that a cyclist has doped and this may offend some people. Although, if we were all out riding together would the poster of the OP ask such a question? I imagine they would.

The problem is, it's forum policy to allow endless amounts of precisely this material in relation to other riders, and anyone who dares complain about this type of trolling is hounded off the board. But in this case, the moderator known as Alpe d'Huez says the thread is testament to all that has gone wrong around here.

So as you can see, we have a somewhat huge, and mind blowing, consistency problem here.

Speaking of troll garbage...mental illness is not curable, but it can be controlled with medicine. Toodles BPC!

So, since many of you here seem to know Andy or something, can you let us know if it's really true that he didn't share his Giro winnings with his team as famously reported by Bobke?

JV was juicing.

He had an eyelash in his eye and the constant blinking and squeezing of the muscles around his eye made the roids work on the wrong muscles.

This is like one of those before and after pictures used to market diets where the person has been photographed from a different angle, and with different lighting, in other words meaningless. And in this case he's older in the second shot.

Actually I think the roids made him go from about 135 to about 140 or so in 8 years. He needed the juice to gain less than a pound a year which contributed to his decreasing results. At 24 a phenom. Over the hill at 32.

All jacked!

2. observe something about that rider .

You mean like they couldn't even finish a particular race and then they are unbeatable in that race after nearly dying from a dread disease or they ride for teams which consist of dopers, doping doctors and doping directors?

3. conclude this as evidence of potential doping.

"Potential?"

4. somehow relate this to lance armstrong!.

Didn't Pharmstrong take it upon himself to speak for the peloton on multiple occasions with his enforcement of the omerta?

He told Bassons to get a new job. He chased down Simeoni after which the peloton spat on him. Then he gave that pathetic speech from the TdF podium.

Hampsten was and still is one of my favorites. I've met him and actually ridden with him a couple times in events that he was a part of. He is a genuinely nice guy who seemed to love bikes and bike racing and by everything I know, still does.

All that said, nothing surprises me and just because I like him and respect his palmares as a bike racer doesn't mean I think he was above PEDs of some sort. IMO no one, past or present in pro sports and especially bike racing is. Was Andy a heckufa bike racer and was/is a great guy? You bet. Did he partake in whatever the PEDs dejour of his day were? I don't know but I would be surprised if he did.

Edit: I wouldn't be surprised

So if he was on the them he should ask for his money back!

The whole point is that this is a meaningless bs thread.

Hampsten was always good. No one has made any suggestions whatsoever that the guy was on anything.

The different pictures provide very little basis for comparison.

Hampsten didn't get any better results in the time the troll suggests he's juiced.

The guy retired at the age of 32, which is really not very far past a physical peak yet he noted that previously, he was a top climber. At the time of his retirement, he was adequate. An accurate representation of reality as we know it.
