the thing is the talk is not about the best climber in general. as for equally good shape for both, its a perfect fictional situation, which is doomed to collide with thebiased perception in the end. it happens toooo seldom. contador and rasmussen'07. what else could we remember?

TBH the galibier stage was one of Schlecks best results so it would be unfair to disclude it, because I doubt contador at full peak would have brought back Schleck fully anyway.

BTW whats so disgusting about cycling exactly, it cant just be because of Contador's ban which has no direct correllation to cycling atm.

Anyway Contador is certainly a better climber than Schleck. Just think about whether Schleck could have dominated this years giro as Contador did..

He might have gone with him.

For me it does because cycling = Alberto for me. Every race from now on will keep on reminding me of this unjustice so there is nothing left to enjoy. But anyway, that's just me.

What was wrong with Andy in 2009 and 2010? Equal form =/= equals.

thats difficult to characterize the form as equal. in 2009 schleck didnot have a leader experience and possibly had a lower climbing class yet. in 2010 contador was prepared worse than usually. in 2013 some new circumstances can come to light...
hopefully, you haven't taken offense. :) i decided to swagger a bt in Andy Schleck appreciation thread.:p

OK, since I'm here;) Andy in 2009 was still finding his feet really and was up against a super motivated and no doubt very angry Contador = no contest. 2010, avoiding all the usual he* should have waited nonsense (*insert as appropriate Contador/Schleck) was a pretty much even affair =. 2011 TDF was a blow out for AC for many reasons. It totally affected Schleck's ride and no doubt he messed up badly bacause of that (his v v bad no excuse).

No comparison but I doubt anyone other than a total Schleck fanboy would argue against Contador IF he had brought his Giro form. So on balance will give it to AC.

We won't see how they now match up until 2013. Schleck should stilll be on the up. In theory so could AC. I see 2013 as the first true battle between the two. A more mature Schleck nearing or at his peak against a Contador still at his peak and most likely still seething. Let's hope for a TDF route worthy of this potential mega showdown:)

There are soooo many threads and posts about the great man that I really think it's time we had our very own 'Andy' sub forum ;)

Since this is the Andy Appreciation thread I will write what I appreciate about Andy :)

He has an awesome, inate natural talent. His performance on the Galibier, winning LBL and his performance on the Tourmalet. He dispalys a kind of 'goofy' boyish charm in some of the clips I've seen.

Okay, I'm done :D

How much more motivation does one need than riding in the biggest event in the sport versus a 7-time Tour champion and 3 time grand tour champion? According to both of the Schlecks they had their own little anger/pity party going on to motivate them with Sastre having "stolen" the Tour from Frank in 2008. They both should started the Tour with anger/fire in their little bellies.

That said, I truly look forward to 2013. It should be a battle royale provided the Tour organization does disallow Contador from competing.

I appreciate all the material he gives via the media for our own entertainment. He is quite gracious. The gift that keeps on giving.
Thank you Andy!:D

I am probably repeating most of what's be said. Andy Schleck simply deserves respect. It will be difficult obviously for him in this years TDF because of the ITT miles, but I hope he can counter that with good performances on the climbing stages. Lets hope the route provides that chance.

See I'm not the only one who worries about that.

Vino's withdrawal had been accompanied with a far more scandal, but he came back as if nothing had happened. ASO is not a kamikaze to lose so much money.

They want Andy as the champion. They think they can make money with him just as well. Ideal would be a French winner, but that is almost impossible, and Luxembourg is half French, so they have to settle for that.

Edit: Plus, they kept Astana out of the Tour when Alberto was defending champion. To quote Hitch, why would they bother about someone who won an Olympic cycle ago?

If ASO really wanted Andy to win the Tour on the road they wouldn't have 90 kms of TT in this years edition.

Johann is working his magic as we speak and Andy will pull a Rassmussen circa Tour 2007 in the ITT. ASO was alerted to the liklihood of the Leopard/Shack merger before finalizing the TT kms.;)

Just no Spaniards because Spaniards are dirty cheaters.

Andy Schleck is the TdF champion all the people (consciously or not) always dream of. And let these my words ineluctably reach all those who possibly think other way.

LOL,neither one nor the other. :) Just need to answer something. Unfortunately, cycling season haven't started for me so far cos I have no opportunity to watch the races until Paris-Nice. Then it will be possible to discuss something new. :)
