Isn't the liver the same organ that breaks down lactic acid? Alcohol is just training for him, his liver's capacity seems to be growing every year making him a better puncher/climber each season. Andy gets worse with alcohol though.

Not funny:(

Here's Boonen after the Tour of California, I think it was last year, not sure.

I didn't have much compassion for him left after he DNFed TA, but this definitely gives makes me feel much more compassion for his situation. I had no idea his situation was this bad (if this really was him). I am desperately hoping he can find the strength to get himself back on the right path. And hopefully Radioshack and it's management stick by him and help to get him the support he needs right now. :(

Also I think it´s ridiculous what this politician did. No one knows this man, everyone knows Andy Schleck.

The only thing this politics guy has to make is to travel and to talk ****, he doesn´t know the pressure of a top cyclist´s life. This man travels around the world, living his politician life, and how does HE relax? Drinking beer, eating, some do prostitutes, some snort coke, whatever. Why does an Andy Schleck not have the right to relax after nearly a week of hard racing in cold and ugly conditions?

As long as he doen´t have to pay Andy´s salaries, this guy better shuts up.

Andy also got drunk during the vuelta of 2010.

It's just a feeling though but this seems way different than then. I've a bad feeling about this, everything is going bad and then getting drunk is something way different than being drunk after having a great season or after the tour of california.

Besides Andy still has the ardennes as his goal, then you don't go drunk in march, that simple.

Reading this made me sad. Usually i ridicule andy and he deserves it most of the time but this is just sad. Get better Andy.

If you read his comments you'll see he says AS couldn't stand, being "well soaked".
Late check in at a hotel in the Munich Airport. A well soaked type barely enters the elevator and tries unsuccessfully to press the button. I agree a great cycling champion, twice second in the Tour in recent years. Depressing

If you're that far gone in public, you deserve all you get. I think his comments aren't all that bad at all, nor unfair. AS & any other professional is paid to promote one or more brands. Part of that is done by winning races, part by taking part but a significant part is by their actions away from the bike. Tiger Woods was dumped by many sponsors for stuff that was in the same vein, how is this massively different?

If AS wants to get wasted to unwind without being pulled up for it, don't do it out in public. It's not rocket science!

You´re certainly not wrong, but nevertheless, I think, if this French gentleman would have class, he´d have spoken to Andy directly over his misbehaviour, maybe even via eMail or so the other day, instead of making such a thing public. That doesn´t help anyone.
One also cannot expect that Andy Schleck behaves like a holy from January 1st 2006 till his end of career in maybe December 2020, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

I´d rate this incident as lack of professionalism of both, Schleck and the politician.

Schleck is a clown wasting his career being drunk in the middle of the season. I have no problem with it, its between him and his employer. He hasn't done anything illegal. Role model? Please, sponsors can just dump him if they think he is bad for business.

I have a problem with the politician who seem to think its his job to report about private peoples behavior inside a hotel to get a bit of traffic on his Facebook account. What a lowlife.

I forgot to mention that was about Sagan, who has a usual beer consumption reaching far beyond human limits.

That has to do with his nationality though; they drink so much more alcohol in eastern europe, compared to the rest of the world.

(Before anybody thinks I'm showing a kind of negative prejudice about eastern europe, look at this little list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_alcohol_consumption and notice how the top 12 of countries for alcohol consumption per capita are all in the eatsern halve of Europe)

Nothing wrong with getting drunk once in a while in the off-season.

In the middle of the season, however...particularly just after a stage-race...That ****s up your recovery completely and practically makes all the training you've gotten from the race worthless.

Sorry - that's nonsense.

Is it good, no - but he had just done a difficult weeks work and would be recovering today anyway. So, if there was a time to let your hair down, now would be it. And Pros get twisted really really easily.

The only thing is whether he was in celebratory mood or drowning his sorrows. The rest he has probably flushed out his system already.

Van Petegem noted he´d have to have not 5, but 15 Leffe (Flemish beer) after the Ronde, Cipollini smoked in a race for show reasons, so what. Cycling is show.

In My Opinion.

Cycling is about winning. 2nd is just the first loser.

Netserk said:
No I don't find it 'hugely impressive'.

I think his win on Galibier was hugely impressive. 2nd overall not.

Netserk said:
Just to be clear. I have seen many great rides that didn't result in victory, and also impressive tries from far out, but at the end of the day it's all about crossing the line first.

Contadoraus Schlecks said:
By that rationale you would argue that first place in any minor race is more impressive than 2nd in the Tour of France?

So, again to be clear. It is wins only that make something 'hugely impressive'?

Pretty much the same pattern as with Pantani.

I don't think AS is that kinda of an extreme guy, but then again i've no idea what's going on with him now.

I certainly hope he does not go the same way as Pantani.

I wonder how the rest of the peleton are responding to this situation. They are rivals, but at the end of the day must recognise that he needs help. People like Riis for example must still feel an attachment and concern

This young man is in a bad place...perhaps for the first time in his life. I hope he gets the help and support he needs to make his way back to the peleton. I have enjoyed seeing him battle with Alberto. Not my fave...but I only wish him well
