Andy does not have the skill set to excell at week long (or shorter) stage races, that much has always been clear, just because you can win the Tour doesn't axiomatically mean you will win World Ports Classic hands down. Apples and oranges

It's more a matter of his really caring to do so. His itt isn't so dismal that it totally compromises his chances in the overall. If Valverde and Sammie Sanchez can win week long stage races then Andy with comparable skill in itt's and superior climbing skills should be able to. How many times have we seen him getting dropped on climbs in week.long stage races? IMO too often for someone with his talent. He just seems to lack motivation for large portions of his racing calendar.

im not sure winning a trophy for finger painting constitutes a comeback

i wish him all the best at the tour and i would enjoy nothing more than to see him challenge froome and contador but its impossible to have any confidence in him anymore .

Watching Rolland in the Giro has been reminding me of Andy. Similar physique and similar style on the bike. Suppose Andrew will be riding the Tour De Suisse ?

It's good to see Andy's recovering well after watching the Valmartello stage

According to this article from Veloropa, the Schleck-brothers and Jungels has been doing recons of the TdF-stages in the Vosges recently. In addition to the recon of the cobbled stage, that is. (I posted a link to this a few days ago, but I can see there are some problems with the forum.)

As long as Frank stays upright there should be no such thing.

Now, now.
Don't forget it was another rider (Tony Martin, IIRC) who caused the crash by riding into his back wheel.
I know he's famed for being more sideways than staying upright, but here's one crash he did not produce on his own but always gets attributed to him.

You know, I was just looking at some start lists, and to his credit, Andy has (supposedly) fifteen racing days scheduled this month, leading up to the Tour: the Tour du Luxembourg, the GP du canton d'Argovie, and then Tour de Suisse. After his string of DNFs at Amstel Gold, La Fleche Wallone, and Liege-Bastogne-Liege--and taking May off--my hope for him is to actually commit to finishing all those race days this month and to work hard during them. He hasn't exactly distinguished himself this year, thus far. ;)

He last turned the pedals in anger on April 12th in the closing Time Trial at Pais Vasco, then went to Mallorca to train (though he left there May 12th and I have no idea what he's been up to since).

C'mon, Andy, get your head (and your heart) in the game!

Just imagine the whole thing: Froome and Contador looking at their power meters and dancing on their bikes, going all out on the final climb and attacking each other until they are both empty. When they look behind they both **** in their pants as they see not one, but two Schlecks looking *** and span. And then the legendary Schleck 1-2 for the win.
They are one hour ahead of Froome before the TT. Andy does his best performance in an ITT ever by losing only 59 minutes to Froome and winning the Tour...

Facts have never gotten in the way of a good ol' Contador fangirl

Aw Jeez, I can't help myself not responding when the Andy thread gets reactivated. Nice that Andy has kept his head down. Illness and injury behind him, we could have a real Joker in the pack for the Tour.

That's what I'd like to see. Andy turning the pedals in anger. Been a long time.

With neither behind him, he remains the joke of the pack.

Utterly past it.

I find this a very likely scenario. Very very likely...

Well, he will be the Joker. Of that we can be certain.
