I checked out the first few pages of the thread. It was started by you and you were very appreciative of Andy Schleck's big solo attack at the 2011 tour. So were many others. But in the recent comments he seems to have gone down in people's estimation. What's changed since last year for Andy?

Andy was given credit when it was due. No one can deny the epic quality of his performance on that day but one day doesn't change many years of whining, excuse making, half-hearted efforts, and Spanish bar-hopping that followed and preceded it. Even the svengali of current cycling ds' is at his wits end with him and his brother's habits, to go so far as to publicly imply that Andy's tt isn't likely to improve. This while an example of a rider's potential for improvement in the discipline has just been given by Purito who many within this forum had given up any hope of ever improving in that area (Not that we're a bunch of experts of course!).

Well I'm looking forward to and optimistic about Andy for le tour, not in an airstream way of course but this is the (only) time that the real Andy stands up and I'm hoping that he'll be able to provide some genuine excitement in a way that was lacking from the Giro this year.

...Tour director Christian Prudhomme was happy to hand Andy Schleck the yellow jersey. "It has taken a long time for the decision to arrive and we all agree that this was not good. For us, coming to 'Schleckville' and paying homage to Andy was very important. I cannot wish anything else than many more yellow jerseys for Andy, who is a great champion. His attack and win on the Galibier last year showed great 'courage' and touched all of the hearts of the fans of cycling"

See it? I was right. He is the Legend. :)

“I’m not necessarily looking for a place on the GC but I’m going to try and test myself on the Col de Joux-Plane,” Schleck told Velochrono.fr. “The Dauphiné isn’t an objective in itself.”

What a pathetic Champion...

The Legend is eager to make us happy as many Tours as it is possible hence he conserves energy for July. No redundant energetic particle should be wasted in vain, including at the Dauphine,

That is some deep sh!T :)

I just always believe riders in this regard. They know an optimal way of preparation better. If he does this way, that's correct.

Yes, this approach only failed 4 times in a row so far.

You meant once, right ? He won 2010, failed last year and in 2009 was inexperienced and too young to win Tour anyway, and was clearly inferior climber to Cotnador then.

2008 maybe you could say he was too young based on his bonk that dropped him from contention but onward he should be evenly evaluated with the rest of his competitors based on his talent level and the strength of his team.

You conclude his training approach 'failed' because he did not win? Getting top 3 clearly doesn't mean anything...

When your whole season is just about the Tour and you're as talented as Andy, not winning can be considered as a failure.

In all the tours he participated he was clearly in top form (excluding 2011 maybe) meaning his approach to training/peaking is just fine.

No need to change what clearly works for him. I agree with people though it would be more fun to watch if he could at least perform decent in the Ardene classics but that just didn't work out this year.

Since Andy was in top shape and still lost, someone was obviosuly more talented than him.

A failure being on podium at the Tour De France.. ?
A disappointing result if the goal was to win, perhaps - but failure..
That's a new one
