Ricitello uploaded to Strava. They smashed the first 6km, he gained a full minute on Kuss' 2023 time in the first 6km, which includes the start of the steep section.

Looks like very good pacing on the earlier part if even Hindley now has the 4th fastest time of all time.
Steep section I felt that Almeida eased slightly off at the end in order to be able to react if Vingegaard countered. Hard to tell.

I haven’t caught up on the race thread, but Kuss was better than Roglic / Vinge in 2023 (and 25isj seconds better than himself that year), and Hindley with his strongest performance in years that I can recall. Clearly much better pacing this year.

Almeida uploaded to Strava as well.

It really looks like Almeida/Vingegaard slowed down a in the final 10 minutes of the Angliru, and all the time gains were due to the first, easier section and hitting the first 15% section directly after the flat extremely hard. It's important to note that the Angliru really only has 2 extremely steep sections and between that it's more regular between 11-14%.

On Cuenas les Cabres, Almeida's Strava time is 3'54, where Kuss has the KOM with 3'36 in 2023, and Almeida has the same time as Kelderman from the slow 2017 time (negative split).

That said, I can't really find any segments where Kuss was faster this year than Almeida, so the GPS was probably being completely whack given it went from 40s+ at some point to only 30s at the line.

@Red Rick on any other climb 11-14% would be seen as extremely steep! Almeida and Vingo did a massive effort up up to those final 10 minutes. There, yes, it looked like they ease off a bit. Whether because they both of them couldn’t go any faster or because Almeida didn’t want to be on the limit and get passed by Vingo. IMHO both things combined.

Vingo created Pogi's Ventoux record and strongly contributed to PdB all-time performance. Not that sure about Heras though :p
Exactly.
In PdB (Tour 2024) Visma + Vingegaard + Pogacar did a TTT up the mountain.
In Ventoux (Tour 2025) it was the same thing.
And yesterday it was a UAE TTT... but in this case Vingegaard's job was breathing on João Almeida's neck. It was just enough to push João Almeida to his career performance.

Yesterday's stage only confirmed my suspicions that Roglic would have easily won this year's Vuelta.
I think he would have been smoked if he’d come, to be honest. If he hadn’t raced (and crashed out of) the Giro, then I agree, he would be there in it for the win. Not easily, though. Last year’s form probably enough to be right there with Vingegaard in the standings right now, IMO. Should have the 2023 Vuelta title too.

If he did all 3 or if he had skipped the Tour?

Anyway if nothing else I'm convinced Bora were absolutely ready to cook in the Giro.
I didn't see him cooking in an uphill sprint tailormade for him
