any body else like Andy Schleck

Dont get me wrong, I'll follow contador vs lance celebrity deathmatch starting january 1 and be breathless till july 30th but there was something so simple about his view on his participation in the TDF. Like a kid in a candy store. I remember the interview at the last stage and he said he looked around and didnt want it to end. Lance was ****ed about being third and contador was shouting ole ! Im the leader of astana and the quiet belgian held on to contador and beat lance. Hope he doesnt get busted for something stupid.

I hope he wins in 2010. His interview prior to the last stage was a class act much needed in the sport.

He has a strong and loyal team with his brother and mad-man Jens leading the charge. Riis is a smart tactician. There are very few TT miles to hurt him. He has a good chance.

The lack of drama and nonsense makes him easy to root for.

Andy Schleck will be the major beneficiary of the battle of the stars. Somebody will screw up on a hilly stage (Alberto) and try to dump LA really deep. Schleck will be there and respond...I'm hopin'

i think the AC V LA saga over the next 8 months, will be adavantageous to AS and other gc riders. Their squabbling may distract each other whcih could help the challengers to get away.

I agree. That could be a big risk if contador gets to personal about how he tries to beat Armstrong.

Contador is a bit underrated in his growth as a cyclist which is rather baffling to me. He showed restraint in the Dauphine when it is usually his MO to try to win most every race he enters. He clearly recognizes that Armstrong will come back in 2010 stronger than he was this year and that he will be a threat but Contador knows that his primary threat comes from the Schleck's, primarily Andy who he realizes will also come back in 2010 a stronger rider in every way. Even Armstrong has taken on the humble recognition that Contador will be hard to beat and that Schleck will be close behind but he obviously see's areas where he can take advantage of them both using his experience and the strength of his team. They all are aware of the rising talents in the sport: Nibali, Kreuziger, Gesink, Wiggins and the 3 vets that will likely return in 2010 and have performances more to their usual levels: Menchov, Sastre and Evans.

As far as liking Andy Schleck, I'm now a bit indifferent about him after his proclaimations after the Arcalis stage that he was the world's top climber and now his public spat over his dissatisfaction with what he considers the lack of gratitude shown by Sastre for his and Frank's contribution to his Tour win. How can he consider himself the world's best climber after getting dropped consistently by his major adversary? I'm hoping his statement was made tongue-in-cheek.

That's some pretty blatant personal abuse there matey. Is there something about sept 5th i just don't understand?

Andy Schleck

Andy Schleck seems to be a decent guy but as a bike rider he will never beat Contador unless he improves his time trialling. As for the spat with Sastre, I don't really understand it. From what I remember, Sastre was very gracious in all of his post race interviews and always praised the strength of his team. Maybe it's because Sastre changed teams ? Who knows but if it is true it is untypical of Sastre's usual behaviour. I think Schleck is the only one who may push Contador next year. On the climbs, Contador just seems to be too good for the others.

+1 Once again you eloquently make the point I intended to make.

i like schleck seems like a nice guy which cannot be said for la and ac. though i do enjoy when lance does well simply for the pain it causes the bitter people on here. i would rather schleck win than contador thats for sure he just seems a bit more humble than ac who is basically a younger version of la.

Thank you Publicus. You are too kind. I have my very rare moments:eek:.

Let me add regarding Andy Schleck that maybe he and Riis should be thanking Sastre since it was he who snatched certain victory away from Evans on Alpe d'Huez, of course with the help of Frank and Andy.
They would have been in a much better position had Andy not bonked from carelessly not refueling earlier in the Tour thus eliminating him from contention and thus giving Saxo Bank one less option as a result. Frank at the time may have been wearing the leader's jersey but he had little chance of keeping it with the ITT looming and we all know about his limited talents versus the clock. Additionally, Sastre's performance in that final ITT is what actually sealed the deal.

:D Ha, you're pretty funny! "when lance does well" As well as he does, it doesn't cause AC fans any pain. All he is seen as now, is a nuisance. Like an insect buzzing (tweeting?) around your ears.
The reset button has been pushed, let's see what happens next year. In the meantime, I'm on board with Andy, who represents one more step into the next generation of riders, that are on the rise. :)

But there's something strange about him, i don't know what.

i cant make up my mind about it.. personally im not sure i see him as a tour rider.. i like watching him in the classics, and think i enjoy watching him as a one day specialist..

does he excite me in grand tours, i dont know, i almost dont see him as an individual but as a cog on the saxo wheel.. i think at the moment for me, he is a part of saxo, rather than an individual.. could he win a tour on a week team, NO, can he win a grand tour with a strong saxo supporting him, YES..

He's humble except for my previously mentioned quote of his proclaiming himself the world's best climber. You must have missed that quote. The one made after getting dropped and losing 20 seconds. I wouldn't call that humble. Delusional maybe but not humble. I honestly don't recall any similar statements of being the best this or that coming from Contador but I could be wrong. He appears to be grounded but then so did Andy Schleck until the Tour and afterwards.

It might've been a joke? Haven't seen this, but I highly doubt he was being serious.

Yeah, I dunno, he does seem to say stuff occasionally that really doesn't gel with his general demeanour and what have you. I dunno about joking, but I often get the impression that he's trying to play mindgames with people, but he just really sucks at it? IDK, maybe he should have gone to Retirement Shack after all, maybe Lance would have taught him something about it.

Mind games or not though, his comments on Sastre were decidedly uncool.

How can you read his blog on Cyclingnews and not love him? It's impossible!
He's just one of the funniest guys in the peloton, always ready for a funny line ...

Asked after the Le Grand Bornard Stage:

"Is 'Attack' your middle name?"
"No, it's Raymond."
