De Lie will do a GT in 2023 and it should be one that is a parcour that suits his characteristics - It doesn't matter which GT, but don't send him to one that has lots of flat sprint finishes.

I see Carlos Alcaraz has a rival for being a human highlight reel. Jesus Christ what a beast he has been the past month o_Oo_O

Has de lie given a reason why he refuses to utilize the drops? Seems like an obvious way to improve on the flatter finishes

I am interested in how he goes in the flat sprints in Guangxi as there will be a decent field. His performance will give us a guide to what will be a suitable GT in 2024.

You can not keep a good man down, so he's back already -

Lotto must be so glad to have him as he's their best shot for being WT again. Just hope they don't burn him out. Spring and Autumn race, June and July on the beach sounds about right for him.

He isn't even at 50 racedays. He had 2 months off lid season because of his injury.

If you want to look at a team that burns a talent out look at Cofidis with Zingle.

I think Lotto is handling it perfectly for now. They haven't thrown him for the lions, let him ride races that give him experience while at the same time still a big chance to win it. Next year bigger races and a GT. Goes perfect to plan.

I'm still skittish on how good he'll actually become, but for now he's doing great.

Better sprint field than Renewi?

Acording to PCS at the moment there's only Milan, Mareczko and Kooij down as sprinters at Guangxi but things could well change before the start. De Lie was surprisingly close to Démare at Paris-Bourges but it's October so it all depends on form.

He was close. This chain fell of and tubeless tire burst. Not sure if it made a difference for the end result.

I replayed it in slomo, and it looks like he slipped on the white paint with his back wheel, and the resulting correction (but also De Lie still tearing his bike into pieces with arms and legs at that moment) resulted in his front tire to come off, and him stopping pedalling (maybe even a bit of back-pedalling) causes his chain to go off.
I think you're about right there. One things for sure, when he sprints he gives it 100% but how he has not crashed is a minor miracle.

He is tearing up bikes. He may be the new phenom who forces manufacturers to reinforce the material on bikes; he is that strong!

A DNF at Paris-Tours for De Lie - anyone know why, crash, puncture, or did his bike just disentegrate under him this time?
He's still down for Guangxi and looking at the profiles, could win any of the 6 stages.
