Teams & Riders Arnaud De Lie is De Truth Discussion Thread

While you might have a point, you don't need to say that every 3 days. It's getting repetitive.

Let's be honest, Belgian media is absolutely awful for talents. They all want to act like they know it better constantly, what riders need to do, what they are supposed to win, etc. They just can't shut up or let them grow in peace. It is a real problem. You know, I am not a big Remco fan, but if there's something I admire him for it's the way he dealt with that. Brother could be eating a Nutella sandwich and it would be on HLN or in some random lame podcast.

And for De Lie it might be even worse, cause he has the whole Walloon side of Belgian following him closely.
That's not true. I was talking more about Cian, now it is De Lie. Probably next year, I will talk about Nys (I like him btw).

Another belgian rider burned by belgian media.
What articles did you read perhaps?

Arnaud De Lie is hyped but nowhere near young Boonen was. He's also Walloon so he's not getting as much attention as he would usually be given that the real cycling crazy part of Belgium is mostly Flanders.

Perhaps the Walloon press specifically follows him closely but that that's hardly a Belgian media specific issue.

Sure it’s a problem, but De Lie also has been vocal about his expectations last and this season. Obviously this will be well documented because it generates clicks in Belgium. Media should protect these youngsters but they don’t care.

Just today I was thinking that the show went downhill. I don’t mind Uijterhoeven, and don’t think it’s due to him, it’s just that they barely talk long enough about something interesting. Those true/false stories, the ranking in Wielermanager just takes time away from talking about cycling.
All your points are valid.. Some issues have to do with Belgium as a country.
Yes he can be wearing national champion stripes and that's important, but only in Belgium.
He has little market opportunities outside Belgium.. So if you want to believe your own hype it's only possible in Belgium.. Rest of Western Europe cycling countries have their own stars and De Lie unlikely to sell coffee, beer, food, trailers, car insurance in countries outside Belgium borders.. Don't see much fanfare about him traveling, same microphones and cameras in his face..
Would he be on dancing with the stars in Holland, England, France, Italy, Spain? No..if he is feeling media pressure it's self inflicted..
He isn't winning in the jersey, just give it back and race already!! Guy is going to squander the years that should be most productive and doing something other than racing!!
Girmay also can't get it together yet.. If you are having emotional or family issues before April even comes you need new director and manager..

He said his heart rate was too high and that he couldn't breath. Some new medical tests planned for him on Thursday and Friday. Blood and lung tests. His numbers on training were fine.

Whatever the reason is (possible allergies, but probably mainly mentally if you would ask me), the "ragequit" yesterday annoyed me a bit. He could've tried longer and he would've come back just like everyone else. At least it wouldn't have looked this bad.

Lefevere thinks so too, and people underestimate the impact of the weight riders have to bear. Look at Arensman in the Giro, first stage he loses a lot of time, why? He just couldn't push harder due to nerves and having difficulties mentally.

This wouldn't have happened in his team according to him

No way a guy who wants a talented rider in his own team (yeah I know it's technically not his team anymore but yk what I mean) tries to make his own team look better while making a rival team (in the fight for talented Belgians they still are) look worse at the same time.

Even tho the part about salary-performance inbalance is probably true, that column was pretty digusting given the position he's in and his way of handling riders with mental problems in the past.

Sending him to the Tour de France sounds like the dumbest decision you can make in my opinion.

Just take it slow, do Belgian 1.1s or easy stage races that don't explode early in the day, and then slowly build up to Vuelta with her meme sprint field.

I think Arensman is probably a different story, he's a little too smart like Dumoulin. Starts to think a little too much and then blocks mentally. But there's not really a lot of pressure from the outside, it's not like the Netherlands is waiting with bated breath to see what he's going to do in the Giro (99% don't even know who Thymen Arensman is).

For De Lie the pressure is way bigger, he has to carry his whole team and he's the Belgian champion. But even if he can't handle the pressure, not being able to follow the peloton after 40 k is a different story. If it's a mental thing that sounds more like some kind of depression, just not being able or willing to suffer on the bike at all.
