Perhaps they are being booed for another reason?

Agree with the sentiment of the OP. Sky is being perceived (wrongly) as the British national team and hence Porte and Rogers being blamed for riding for the opposition. In reality Sky is like a Commonwealth team with many Australian links.

Too much misplaced nationalism all round - the sport doesn't need this sort of thing.

Yeah, Sky is not the British national team, like Orica-Greenedge is not the Aussie national team

so, back to the over-zealous aussie fans....look totally agree it's not right to be booing Porte and Rodgers, obviously they have to do their job, and tbh they have to do it as well as they can, cos that'll help them get better pay & opportunities in future, whether they stay with Sky or go somewhere else (eg. Orica-GE).

but i have to admit, it's painful watching two of our best aussie riders making life hard for Cadel :( nvm, he's already a legend, regardless of the outcome of this year's race :)

If it makes you feel any better, here in the States we get to watch our best American rider working for Cadel. :p

Not that I don't like Cadel, mind you.

It is a sporting event - the last time I checked, fans were allowed to boo riders / teams they didnt like, and cheer for riders / fans that they do like.

It hardly makes them moronic scum....

A true-blue Aussie would cheer for all riders from
the Lucky Land, but louder for their favourites.
Porte and Rogers are a couple of great athletes
doing a great job of a somewhat thankless task,
and to be booed by fellow Australians doesn't
really seem fair, as pointed out by cycling legend
Robbie McEwen.

Not so bad for you though as there is not an American as a contender for GC whos chances are being negatively affected by fellow countrymen.

Personally i hate watching Rodgers and Porte pulling back Cadel and working for Wiggins but i totally respect its their job and if i was in the same situation i would do the same thing so i would not Boo them. Does not mean i dont hate to see it though haha.

Ashamed to be Australian? I am certainly not ashamed to be Australian because of this. You do get some people who take things too far everywhere unfortunately. In saying that, I have noticed that a lot of Cycling blogs/sites haven't abused our riders on the comments sections but they certainly haven't been friendly to Mich or Richie. It says these people are new to the sport. They need to learn a bit more about the sport.

Yes, booing should be reserved for cutting across a sprinters wheel nearly taking them out so you can have 6th place glory and points.

Ahh. Well I can understand the loyalty to Cadel. But not the ashamed part. Or the booing part either, since these are international teams. Just for comparison, nobody booed Kevin Livingston when he left USPS to ride for Ulle and against Lance.

It happens in all sports. English football fans boo their own team if they think they have under performed. Are they any worse than the behaviour of some of the fans on the MTFs ? Flag wavers. I have never understood the nationalist approach to sport. In sport a good performance should be able to be appreciated, wherever the athlete is from that's why the Olympics hysteria always leaves me cold.

No but Voigt got a lot of abuse thrown at him for hurting Ullrich's chances.
