Deserved? De gendt doesn't agree:

679km in the attack, several days working hard for @AndreGreipel all this with a broken rib. What do i have to do more for the combativite

Btw de gendt isn't saying it should have went to him but others deserved it more.

It was super obvious imo, that it should have went to Sagan but we all know how the french are :D

Both in the break on 4 stages, but sure, it's "super obvious" that it should have been Sagan.

Yeah Sagan, how many breaks did Adam Hansen get into, know he was in a few, remember he dislocated his shoulder on stage 3 and in his 12th consecutive GT, honourable mention to him I would say.

Surprised Bardet won, thought Pinot was more aggressive than him

They only gave it to him because he missed out on the polka dot jersey due to his own incompetence of not attempting to get into a break.

It should have gone to Pauwels regardless.

I was thinking Sagan. But I don't really have the stats to back it up, anyone?

I dunno, it's true that De Gendt spent more kilometers in the breakaway than anybody else, but... how many of those were quality breakaways where he had to fight a lot to stay in contention? My impression, without having paid a lot of attention, is that De Gendt would get in the break and then fail to be a factor, whereas the most combative rider award typically goes to those who stay in contention, since they have to keep attacking or being generally combative for longer.

In other words, quality over quantity.

But as I said, I didn't pay a lot of attention so I might well be wrong.

He was the guy to attack and whittle down the break about 3-4 times so I'm not sure it's entirely fair to say he failed to be a factor - however, none of his attacks, and probably not even any of the moves caused by the attacks really led to him succeeding at anything so you're probably right

Perichon was also in 4 breaks nobody is claiming he should've won it.

Sagan was not only in all those breaks, he created those breaks and created all the breaks that were not let clear earlier those days

If it keeps Sagan from winning something, however token, I can only approve.

Oh LS. You can be such a high quality poster on this forum. A forumist I truly admire for the effort and knowledge he puts in posts, but sometimes you make these kind of posts.... which are really far below your lvl.
Wether you like Sagan or not, don't go full ***.

It's a silly award but if they have it then they should award it fairly and correctly. It is a farce for Bardet to have won.

Depends of what you think is "combativité", fighting spirit or broadcast time.
In my opinion Pauwels, De Gendt or Quemeneur for the french didn't tried that much. they just went in the break everyday to claim the price. The kind of riders who make a 50meters attack when the break away is catch just to be the most combative of the day, which seems really not combative to me.

Sagan, Rodriguez, Majka, Plaza Molina, Bardet, Pinot or Rolland were the guys making the race outside of the GC group. Maybe they didn't chose Sagan because he firstly went in the breaks away for his points, i agree he did far much than just taking points but that's maybe the reason they found.
For the french guys they always went with some teamates to make the break successfull. That looks like trying hard to me even if in this regard i would have rather picked Pinot. It doesn't look like a disgrace, at least their breaks reached the end line.

De Gendt best results is 8th on stage 16 (the one with 25 riders who got 20min) and 29th on stage 13.

He went out on his own...in the most dangerous kilometres. He attacked over and over up climbs. He got into breaks when he was a marked man. He didn't just do TV time or wheel suck to the last 3km like some of the names mentioned here. Just sayin.

Honestly, Sagan would probably have taken this in my book. Breakaways he really had no business being in. Between Bardet and Pinot for example, I'd give it to Pinot on sheer stubborness (which paid off!).

If its between Bardet and Pinot then Steve Cummings would get it

Pinot is a decent shout...though I think throwing his bike to the ground in a hissy fit might have disqualified him.

Sagan was the only rider eligible who got the combativity award on more than one stage.
