Mendrisio was the best. Such a topsy turvy race with a great winner. Changed his career. Those were the days...

fyi, the 2010 Worlds were in fact in Geelong but it is fine to call it the Melbourne worlds.

I am amazed that Copenhagen has so many votes but I guess that is to do with all the British on here and because it is a more recent race.

What is really the point of having a completely flat sprinter-route for the WC? You might just aswell change the WC ITT into a flat proloque.

Where does it say the parcours has to be hilly?

I'd much rather see varied courses (as we have over the last decade) than the same race every year. Courses like Melbourne and Madrid make for brilliant races because it's just hard enough, and no-one knows if it will come down to a reduced group sprint or not. Sometimes a really hard parcours leads to a boring race as everyone waits, waits and waits (eg look at the trend in where the final actually starts in LBL, later and later almost every year). Variation is part of what makes the Worlds so exciting.

Of course variety is great! But if the organizers want to make it a sprinting WC one year, at least throw in just a couple of hills towards the end, Milano-San Remo-esque, so the race isn't a 110 % predictable bunch sprint and the only question won't be if sprinter 1, 2 or 3 wins. Geels Bakke certainly wasn't worthy with it's 3,7 % average :D

It says it in the "How to make a race potentially interesting" book. On the other hand, the "How to get your baby sleeping at night" book has a bonus DVD of the Copenhagen RR last year.

2009 - the day that Evans life changed forever, showing that he could attack - to the surprise off all except himself and the late Aldo Sassi. He has been a different man since that day.

And he ''honoured the jersey'' very well in the 12 months that followed too.

BTW - see the 2007 finish photo - Evans very nearly did it then too.

Copehagen seriously??
That race freaking sucked!
It was like watching a bloody tour sprint stage.
There was hardly a hill in that pathetic embarrassment of a course.

What is amazing is the number of medals over the last 10 years...for Valverde. Close many times. He should have had Hamilton. Astarloa was such a non-WC.

How to **** did Copenhagen get 6 votes?

skyfanboys of course.

This was by far the worst WC. Also the intro of the thing that destroyed the tour "sky-train"...

Quite a few danes in here, eh. Might be a few who were at the race. I was and it was terrific atmosphere. I'm sure it was a dreadful race in front of the tv but I can fully undestand why such an experience could nick a vote or two.

I rewatched it when I got home. Definitely the worst WC in the last 10 years.

Best WC that I watched was Verona 1999 when I was 7 years old, but of those listed above it's hard to pick one. The vast majority goes for Mendrisio but that's the only WC I didn't watch in the last 14 years, so i cant judge that one. Stuttgart was good but for me a bit boring cause I knew from the moment the headgroup formed that Bettini was gonna take it. I'd go for Salzburg, just for that last kilometer which for me as a Zabel-fan was probably the most exciting and most devastating finish ever. I remember myself lying flat on the floor after the finish not being able to believe that a rider could be so unlucky.

Evans looks very strong in Stuttgart- at the start (same with Samu) and going off at others not pulling.
Can't really complain though since he ended up winning in Mendrisio but still.

Nice sprint by Il Grillo.
