Otherwise their is still time for last year's predictions of Novikov and Silin to prove their worth this year.

In terms of the TPers, well much has been said about the Aussies and of course Bobridge though by no means a surprise should finally start to prove his immense talent though he is at Rabo. Hepburn has been in the shadow of Durbo and Bobridge but he is certainly talented. But Kennaugh is someone who has been labelled by the Sky management as a rider with bagloads of potential, his career on the road so far has been hindered by the track so this season will tell us a lot about him.

Yeah Kennaugh does but he has spent some time on the road so that is why i dont think he has been mentioned [stop giving away cq tips]. Also Silin this year moved teams but he is now at a super Astana squad and Nikita probabably found it hard to adjust. Hepburn has never rode a full season on the road above the U23 level, that is why i think we are all mentioning and Durbridge has so much potential.

@Hugo and Parrulo: Thanks.

@Hugo and Parrulo: Thanks.

Kennaugh has been transitioning from track to road and amongst balancing the Olympics coming up on the track, he obviously did not really commit totally to the road, so indeed this will be the first time we truly see what he has to offer fully..

Indeed I have been following Silin for some while and after some very impressive perfomances last year he stagnated a bit this year. Seeing as in his first pro season (I assume) with Katusha he really impressed (I always seem to recall the break with Schleck on Stage 18 brilliant for a neo-pro) it is a shame that he has not moved on though of course his move to Astana certainly did not help. He will lack opportunities next year, but nevertheless I am certain that if he finds the form of 2011 he will certainly excel at the team.

Novikov indeed as well obviously has found it hard to adjust to pro racing, but as usual hopefully it will take him a year to get over it and the year coming up will be the year which he starts to excel.

you can't have been paying much attention froome :p, the riders with andy on last years break were dries devenyns and maxim inglinsky, silin showed himself with a couple of breakaways iirc on last year's tour but not much more and certainly not the one with schleck.

I do not believe you are right Parrulo.
I have rewatched that stage at least twice, but check for yourself:p

Who knows I may be wrong

well i just checked and he was there on the valley and was dropped with 16.7k to go (fast youtube check) so he just happened to be on the breakaway that was caught by shcleck on the descent and then followed schleck on a flat and false flat section being dropped as soon as it got a bit steeper. not exactly super impressive to be honest that is why i didn't even remember he was there.

he didn't even help on the flat like devenyns did

sorry despite him being there on the break that performance is anything but impressive, i would say dozens of young riders had better performances last year during the season.

I am very much looking forward to following Loic Vliegen in 2013. I think he is an exceptional talent!

Umberto Orsini. Nephew of Andrea Tafi. Excellent climber with heeps of potential.

Silvio Herklotz. Extremely powerful athlete. Looking forward to seeing how he handles the transition to Sub-23.

Just to name a few!

Dombrowski and Aru will do some things like Pinot and Quintana this year. Obviously not a Top10 in the TDF with a stage victory or show the climb level of Valverde and Purito but yes important things. I expect Dombrowski will be the third best climber of Sky until finish 2013. Not mentioned Andrea Palini and Danny Van Poppel.

Does that mean you think Dombrowski will climb better than two of Wiggins, Froome, Henao and Uran next year?

Yes it mean that. Indeed in my opinion Joseph Dombrowski is at the climbing level of Pinot and Quintana.

1. Froome
2. Henao
3. Uran
4. Dombro
5. Wiggo

And in a couple years
1. Dombro
2. Henao
3. Uran
4. Froome
10. Wiggo

Dombrowski will ride away from Wiggins in the mountains and when Wiggins cries up the road for him to come back he will say "I don't think so Wiggo!" and up the pace even more! :D

Ok, I might be trolling a little with that . But I like Dombrowski, he'll be a big talent in the future. And his attack at the Giro Bio was one of the best I've seen this year.

His win in the Giro Bio is one of the most impressive of the last years. Face to face with Aru, his performance really shocked me. Specially in Terminillo. I think nobody expected Joseph would beat Aru in that way, in Italy. An amazing climb to Mount Baldy in California, at Nibali level in the queen stage of Colorado, one of the strongests in Utah. All races he rode this year were succesful for him. He's 20 years, it's unbelievable. Its the best american prpmising rider of the decade.

He's definitely more promising than Van Garderen, who'll never be a great climber, one of the worst climbers to top 5 in the Tour. Dombrowski will have a year to build some endurance, and maybe even do a GT. In 2014 he can really start kicking *** imo. Now he could have a season like Gesink had in 2008, they're very similarly talented at the same age. I just hope bad luck doesn't affect 2 whole years of Dombro's career as well.

I dont agree. We saw his climbing abilities in CdF and Peyresourde (Evans stopped him in La Toussuire, when probably he had legs to stay with the chasing group) Of course he showed a climbing level in the TdF that he never has showed previously. Maybe only in Alpe D'Huez (Dauphine 2010) and in Malhao. But i think he has the talent as a complete climber.

Although this could belong in the Tour thread, think of Tejay as a TT specialist with good climbing. Of the 11'04'' he lost to Wiggins in GC he lost only 3'40'' in TT's, but he lost 7 minutes(incl. helping Evans ofc) in the mountains. Compare it to JVDB, who only lost about 2 and a half to Wiggins outside of TT's, and without his chain drop before La Planche it would have been 1 minute. So in a normal Tour like 2010 Van Garderen would have lost about 5 minutes to JVDB, which would have been an 8th-9th place. I might be wrong because I missed a lot of stages this Tour, but having seen him drop like a stone on Peyresourde, it wasn't like seeing the next Tour winner. Dombrowski imo on the other hand has the talent to one day bring the yellow jersey home.

Danny van Poppel indeed has had some very impressive results in U23 last year, but he won't even be 20 until mid-summer next year. I don't remember any teenager in recent years really having results, save I guess Sagan at the very start of his first season in the TDU (but even he had turned 20 by the time Paris-Nice rolled around). I think DvP will need at least another year before he starts impressing at the pro races.

Of course in a route like 2010 Van Garderen dont have any possibilities. But in a route with 100 kms of ITT i think he will be a contender. We havent seen his 100% yet. He lost the most of the time in Belles Filles and Porrentruy, probably didnt arrived in top form. In La Toussuire stage i think he had the level to stay with the chasing group (based on the previous ascent of the Croix de Fer) in the Bagneres de Luchon stage he arrived with Valverde or Van Den Broeck. Only Froome, Wiggins and Nibali ahead. And in the last mountain stage was so close after the best climbers. This year he has demonstrated a great level in the Time trial. Maybe one of the the three best tt's GC contenders? Hes 24. IMO he has a big margin of improvement as a climber. Probably in a few years he will be the best time triallist of the GT riders and one of the best climbers. It wouldnt be
enough for win a GT which suite his conditions?
