He'll have to make a massive leap in form if he wants to be the super Gilbert of last year in the Ardennes. And Gilbert never makes massive leaps in form, he isn't Andy Schleck.

He probably won't replicate last season ever. I think that was a one off. I don't think he is bluffing at all. Even the greatest athletes have form slumps and sometimes they are not sure why.

Yes he usually rides a long season but I don't think there is any possible way he can win in Flanders this year. Still some hope for the later spring races. Boonen, Freire are looking good. Devolder and Pozzato are also bobbing up at the right time. I actually think Gerrans has a real chance of another classic win in the next month. He has had a great start to the season.

It's a bit of a shame that our World Champion can't even handle a race like Dwars door Vlaanderen. Never mind getting dropped on le Manie at Milan-San Remo. That's just embarrassing if you're wearing the rainbow stripes. Only a win in Gent-Wevelgem can save his spring season now.
