I dont agree. Today many "sport journalists" are former professionals, and in this country, where football is by far the biggest sport, you find yourself in a situation where half the "sport journalists" are former professional footballers - the dumbest kind of human being there is.

I don't agree Hitch - I've followed NFL for my entire life and a lot of those former players are good journalists who tell it like it is. For example, Troy Aikman, Ross Tucker, Howie Long, Chris Collinsworth, and Dan Marino just to name a few. No need to stereotype all NFL players as stupid meatheads. But I'm OT.

Rob: Marvin Gaye.
Laura: I know.
Rob: Let's get it on. That's our song. Marvin Gaye is responsible for our entire relationship.
Laura: Oh, is that so? I'd like a word with him then.

Great show dim.

aikman, much to my surprise, has quickly become the best commentator in football.

yep, all football players are stupid meatheads. except for those countless academic all-americans or the ones that happen to be rhodes scholars. that peyton manning and that drew brees really come off as a morons. ;) don't even get me started on the imbecile that started at qb for the bills last week. what's his name fitzpatrick? went to that crap school harvard. it's a miracle he can figure out how to button his chin strap

She is the OG moderator for Cyclingnews' forums.

Susan, can you give us a self portrait like the eazy-e one on page 2? Instead of guns, hold a mouse in one hand, and a keyboard in the other. :D

The only line I see in front of us is the talk of actual dopers, such as what you read on CEM, if you can stomach it (though plenty of that site is BS - Big Boat is a senior member there for example).

I've just learned in 5 minutes how to perfect a Clen cycle.

That must have been a rough draft that accidentally got uploaded. I couldn't bring myself to read that many one sentence paragraphs.

Frankly I'm surprised Tan even admits there is an omerta. I'm pretty sure that's a new approach forced upon those at Cycling Central because they could no longer get away with the Armstrong-derived party line. IIRC when Tan wrote about David Walsh's book From Lance to Landis: Inside the American Doping Controversy at the Tour de France he was rather dismissive.

It seems that when it comes to former football players working in the media the US versions are smarter than the UK versions.

Cobber - your post did make it onto the site yesterday.

As did mine - reproduced here:

"Forums in general are not the sole domain of the European or American. The cyclingnews forum attracts considerably more Australians than you evidently realise. One of the members with the highest post count is a Melbournian, in fact, like myself.

Ths site has gained its popularity because the moderation policy is designed to control offensive behaviour etc and NOT to control the nature of topics discussed. If you have a substantiated claim then you are welcome to raise it - unlike a site such as this one that stamps on anti-Armstrong sentiment.

As you have observed, we have created a rule about doping discussion in order to concentrate it in one place and keep the structure of other sections. A read of the Clinic should be mandatory for all fans of cycling. In there you will find well formed discussion on both sides of every argument, as well as details of every major (and most minor) ongoing doping investigation. (including a massive amount of detail about the current US FDA investigation into fraud at US Postal/Discovery. A read of the Graham Watson thread that you mentioned will point to just how much further this "scandal" has reached than you indicate. Amongst other knock on effects, Lance Armstrong ended up in a debate on Twitter with Simone LeMond (and later Scott LeMond).

Further investigation shows that any products purchased from the Graham Watson website are actually fulfilled by Mellow Johnnie's - the shop owned by Lance Armstrong. It is clear from just this that there is no way that Graham is going say anything positive about Greg whilst Lance is still smearing Greg's name. oh, and the BroDeal that posted a comment on this site IS the real BroDeal. :)"

for Hitch, "this country" is one in which football is the word for soccer, like most of Europe.

And soccer has some decent commentators - the professional commentators - and an awful lot of ex- and current pros who offer "expert analysis" which consists of stating nothing but the complete obvious and talking solely in cliché. And that's for the ones that can talk at all, some of them can barely string a sentence together in their own native languages.

American Football has a wide range because of the range of backgrounds and educational standards from which the players come because of the strong college system - there will be some players who were college level scholars who happened to be damn good at the game, there will be people who've been pulled out of lessons for game training since their mid teens, and who weren't especially smart before that. Therefore it stands to reason that some of them will be erudite, witty, and able to express complicated concepts in an easy-to-understand fashion. Others will have knowledge of the game but an inability to express themselves in a palatable way.
