Broken Toes

I just found out that I broke two toes the other day at the gym. I'll be off my bike until at least next Wednesday when I see the Ortho specialist as a precaution my doctor feels neccessary. My question is for those who've broken toes and ridden on them, how soon after breaking them did you get back on the bike.

Oh and the reason for the Ortho visit is the bones are broken near the articulating surface.

Thanks,

I broke the big toe on my right foot and was off the bike for a grand total of 1 day. This was one week before the first race of my season and there was no way I was going to miss it.

Surprisigly, the stiff soles of my cycling shoes made riding just about the only thing that didn't hurt my foot. Once they were done up nice and tight, there was no movement and I could barely tell.

A week should be good. Broke a baby toe one summer and was riding after 6 days. Try on your cycling shoes after a few days and see how you feel. Make sure to take a NSAID (like advil or any ibuprofin) before the ride to mitigate swelling during the ride and after. Your toes will let you know when it is time to ride. Walking will be worse than riding.

I've broken toes smashing into hidden rocks with my pedal down and my foot clipped in while blasting down leaf-covered trails here in the fall. Hurts like heck.
I've learned the hard way to keep my cranks level in this situation.
Crossing streams can cause the same problem if you're going fast enough. Just one of the many consequences of cross country riding.
How'd you break your toes at the gym? Visions of somebody dropping a barbell on your foot entered my mind, hope that wasn't the case.
